Misleading Pricing. High-Pressure Sales. Zero Transparency.
My wife and I purchased a 2026 Keystone Springdale 2300BH** from General RV (Clarkston) on June 30, 2026. We kept the camper because our family likes it, but the buying experience was the worst I've ever had.
We originally came to buy a Grand Design based on a verbal quote. Once we arrived, that pricing disappeared and we were steered toward a Keystone Springdale instead.
The camper was advertised at $18,999, yet the first offer was around $26,000. After nearly two hours of negotiating and refusing dealer add-ons, we finally reached an agreement.
Then the finance paperwork contained a higher purchase price than we had agreed to. I caught it before signing and refused until it was corrected. Later, I requested a detailed breakdown explaining why the final selling price exceeded the advertised price. That request was refused.
To make matters worse, I was told the deal had to close that day because it was the last day of the month, creating unnecessary pressure. The delivery walkthrough was disappointing, many questions couldn't be answered, and I ended up paying an inflated price for a required hitch ball just to get home.
This isn't about a few hundred dollars. It's about honesty, transparency, and treating customers fairly.
I've decided to keep the camper because we'll make great memories with it, but I've also filed a complaint with the Michigan Secretary of State, which regulates dealer licensing, asking them to review the pricing and sales practices I experienced.
If you experienced similar pricing or sales tactics at General RV, document everything, keep copies of the advertisements and paperwork, and consider filing your own complaint with the Michigan Secretary of State. Accountability only happens when consumers speak up.

I bought my last camper from General RV (Wixom) and wasn’t thrilled with the experience, so I decided to try the Clarkston location this time. As a repeat customer, I expected a certain level of transparency and appreciation that I did not get.
After finding a small, single-axle camper that we liked, we came in to find a deal that offered me $6k less than fair market value on my trade (which Camping World offered me) and charges of nearly $3k for freight and another $3k for prep fees (note that Camping World displays these fees on their website — nothing even close to $3k freight in our area and their prep fees are around $1,600). As we sat there, they slowly increased their offer for my trade but even at the end, something didn’t feel right (after claiming they had to make five phone calls on a Sunday to the manufacturer and to “mom”).
They said I could put down a $100 refundable deposit and let them know the next day if I wanted to do the deal. I gave them the deposit and the next day told them no. They proceeded to tell me I had to come back in to get my deposit refunded. I told them just to credit the card they used, but it’s been silent since then.
This is probably the worst customer experience I’ve ever had and I can’t stress enough that you should not shop at General RV unless you want to feel icky and have them rip you off.

A huge shout out to Tim Johnson and the entire staff at General RV in Clarkston Mi. They did an OUTSTANDING job in helping us into our beautiful new fifth wheel. We bought previously from the Birch Run location but found our entire experience with Tim, Rick Wilson, Ray in finance, Heather Ramsay, Dan, and the entire sales and service department to be far superior to the previous location. They treated us with kindness, respect, and listened to all of our concerns. I will not hesitate to go back again. Thank you all for a great experience!

We worked with David Karpelenia, he was great working with our budget and doing all he can to get us where we needed to be. Got us in our first camper just in time for my husband's leaves for work. We will definitely work with him again.
