When I got there the device hadn't been delivered to the installer. I had to leave and wait for the installer to call me when it arrived. This business, Tys Auto Service was disgustingly filthy. I could not even sit down while I was there. The owner, Tyler, was nice enough, but he seemed tired, disorganized, distracted, and unenthusiastic. The waiting area was so messy. It had Intoxalock devices laying all over the place, on the floor, on the shelves, on the counter, along with people's paperwork with their addresses and phone numbers in full view. There were spiders and cob webs everywhere. There were car parts strewn about. Everything in this place was covered with a layer of dust and dirt and there was stuff piled all over the place, clothing, car parts, dirt bike, boxes, signs, and Intoxalock devices. But there on the wall was a huge sign that displayed the INTOXALOCK name. It too was covered in cob webs and looked like it had been there for years. I just had new tires installed on my vehicle and when Tyler drove it partially into one of the bays to install the device I heard him run over something and it made a loud crunching noise. He couldn't pull my vehicle fully into the bay, as the bay itself was littered with debris. Tyler gave me zero instruction on how to operate the device, only telling me to push the black button and blow into it. I failed it 4 times, my very first time using the device, right in front of Tyler and all he could tell me was, blow harder. I couldn't blow harder than I was already doing. I am an older person (over 60). My lung capacity is diminished at my age, plus I've had a lung injury. I am very worried I will not be able to meet the requirements necessary and receive a lockout. I believe it is inevitable. However, we all know that the system is set up to fail. More failures means more money in the pockets of Intoxalock CEOs. Intoxalock has evolved into quite a lucrative, profitable, tyrannical, unsafe and fraudulent business. People have passed out and crashed into other cars trying to meet the requirements this business has set as its standard operating procedures, and the state and federal government are aware of these facts yet do nothing to correct it. They too profit from failure. The system is rigged against you. This system is more about profits than safety. They'd rather you crash into someone and possibly kill them than reduce their bottom line to ensure safety. Tell me again how this device protects the public?? In my opinion it greatly endangers the public with continuous rolling retests and vehicle shut downs. God help anyone with one of these devices installed on their vehicle and God help those in the way of the distracted driver who's livlihood depends on blowing, sucking and blowing hard enough to satisfy those with a disgusting lust for money over safety.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

Once the device is installed, drivers blow into the car breathalyzer mouthpiece to provide a breath sample. The device tests for breath alcohol content (BrAC) within the legal limit. If it's under the limit (typically .02), then the driver can put their keys in the ignition and start the car.

What is the cost of ignition interlock device?

An ignition interlock device, also frequently referred to as a car breathalyzer, ranges in cost between $70 and $150 for installation. This fee is a one-time fee paid at the start of your lease period for the device to be installed into your vehicle. This fee is paid directly to the service center for the work done to complete your installation.
