The second week of June I decided to buy all new BFG tires for my Ford Excursion before going on a trip that Friday to NJ. The trip to Jersey went ok but I could feel a shake after 60mph, not great. On the ride home from Jersey that Sunday we are going 70mph about a hour from the bay bridge and the truck starts to sway, then becomes unmanageable forcing me to stop to see what was wrong. The driver side rear tire completely flat by the time I got to a safe area to pull over. Changed to the spare and the following day I took the flat back to the shop. They filled with air on the spot and determined they installed a faulty valve stem that caused the flat. They took care of that and I asked for them to rebalance the wheels, they said they addressed the issues and I picked the truck up.
I drove the truck to work the following day, wheels still out of balance, felt exactly the same. I determined that I was going to let the truck sit until my uncle had time to balance my wheels in his shop because I felt Mr. Tire was not doing something right. So the truck sits, I drive it once a week as I normally do to keep batteries up and so forth.
Last Thursday I come home from dinner with my family, and the same tire that had gone flat the driver rear, had exploded a good portion of the sidewall, note that this was the hottest day of this year to that point. It’s my belief that the 9000 lb truck sitting on that tire flat, compromised the sidewall off the tire, and the extreme heat and sun beating on it cause it to blow out.
My father took the wheel off and delivered it to Mr. Tire the next morning. I got a phone call later that day with the manager Ed telling me they believe it was vandalism. The truck sits right in front of my house with a camera on it 24/7…….. I looked at video all the way back to the last time I drove it, and no one vandalized the tire, it blew from the heat and being compromised. So I went and talked to Ed that Friday evening and he told me he could give me a deal on a new tire, I refused that. So he said he would contact his district manager and get back to me. I left and got no call. I contacted BFG directly and they told me to set up an inspection with the shop and they will determine the outcome that way.
Saturday was the holiday so I waited until afternoon Sunday and still no call. So I drove up and spoke with the manager Ed once again. He said he had not called his district manager. I told him I contacted BFG directly and gave him the case number. He responded by saying “I’m just going to ask my district manager to give you a tire”. I told him that would be the right thing to do as I’m not lying to them and I left.
Monday no call, Tuesday no call, today is Wednesday, I decide to stop at the shop on my way home. Speak with Ed again, asked if he contacted his district manager, he said no but “he was here earlier and will probably be back soon” so I asked if he mentioned my tire to him at all yet? He responded “no we are really backed up”. So I said ok I’m going to go make a phone call, and so I proceeded to call Mr. Tire “Monroe” Corporate office. I filed a claim with them, they were helpful and told me to reach out to them after I speak with the district manager.
By this time the district manager had arrived on site. I spoke to him, I told him about my claim with BFG and asked him to call them while I was there, and he refused. I asked again because I would feel more comfortable being there for the conversation, and he refused once more. He said he would get back to me by the end of the day.
I left I called Mr. Tire corporate and filled them in, they asked that I call back after I hear from him, or if I do not hear from him as well.
I then called BFG and spoke to them, they said they had gotten no call regarding my claim and I expressed my concern that they refused to call while I was there at the shop, and BFG advised me to pick my wheel up from that shop, and take it to another shop in the area that I trust. So I picked up the tire it’s at Point S next door, Mr. Tire has lost a customer for life.

I used the one in Severna Park Maryland. They charged me for services they didn’t complete. I called them out on it and the manager (Farrell) told me they’d issue a refund to get me out the store. They never did give the refund and he was very rude. They’d rather rip you off once that have you as a repeat customer.
