Unfortunately, I can't recommend this location after my recent service.
During my visit, an employee removed and inspected both my engine air filter and cabin air filter. My cabin filter was quite dirty, so after he showed it to me, I specifically authorized him to replace it. He later confirmed that it had been replaced and even told me approximately how long the new filter should last.
However, when I looked at my receipt afterward, there was no record or charge for the cabin filter replacement. I checked the car myself and confirmed that a new filter was in fact installed. Even more concerning, when I opened the glove compartment to inspect it, I found the glove-box damper—which has to be disconnected to access the cabin filter—left loose beside the filter instead of being reattached.
I was also told during the service that my power-steering fluid had been topped off, but that wasn't documented on my receipt either. The tires were supposedly checked and inflated as part of the service as well. Yet only three days later, after the car began handling strangely and the traction-control/VSC warning appeared, I checked the passenger-side front tire and found it at only 28 PSI. The valve-stem cap was also missing from that tire, while the caps were still present on the others. I can't know whether the tire lost pressure after the service or was simply never properly inflated, but given the short time interval and missing cap, it raised another question about how carefully the service was performed.
Three days after the service, my check-engine light also came on. I want to be fair: I do not yet know whether that problem has anything to do with the work Valvoline performed, so I'm not blaming them for it in this review. However, because they had removed and inspected my engine air filter during the same visit, I called the store hoping they could simply look over the areas they had touched and make sure everything had been put back correctly.
The phone experience only made things more frustrating. The store became flustered and transferred me to customer service, where they tried to open a claim and told me someone would contact me in 2–3 business days. When I explained that I wasn't looking to file a claim—I simply wanted the recent work checked—the representative asked why I hadn't just driven back to the store. Yet the store had essentially told me NOT to come get it looked over and instead sent me to customer service.
Mistakes happen. What bothers me is the accumulation of problems: work performed but not documented, a component left disconnected after the cabin-filter replacement, a front tire at 28 PSI only three days after the tires were supposedly checked and inflated, its valve-stem cap missing, and then difficulty getting a straightforward reinspection when I had concerns shortly afterward.
I don't expect perfection from an oil-change shop. I do expect careful reassembly, accurate documentation of the work performed, and a helpful response when a customer raises legitimate concerns only three days later. Unfortunately, this experience left me with very little confidence in the quality control of the service I received.
UPDATE: I returned to the store and the manager was extremely helpful. She discovered that when my engine air filter was inspected during the original service, the intake hose had not been reconnected. She reconnected it and cleared the P0171 code, and both the check-engine and traction/VSC lights went away. She also reattached the glove-box damper that had been left disconnected. She listened carefully to all my concerns, said she would address the problems with the employees involved, did not charge me for the new cabin filter, and offered a complimentary future oil change. She also clarified that customer care had incorrectly told me the store couldn't scan diagnostic codes. The original service had significant quality-control problems, but I greatly appreciate how seriously the manager took them and how well she worked to make things right. I'm changing my rating from 1 to 2 stars.
