Overall a pretty bad experience. They tried to use aftermarket glass for a windshield replacement first, only to find out the glass they brought in was warped and could not be installed. Why I had to go in for my appointment for them to know that, I have no idea, but that’s wasted time 1.
To remedy, they got OEM glass and said they would call me the next day to reschedule. Two weeks later, no one had called, so it was on me to reschedule with them.
Went in today for the OEM glass replacement, three hours later, have new glass, but they could not calibrate the sensors, and gave me the car back with warning lights for Lane departure and lane keep assist systems. They informed me that I needed to make a dealership appointment to have them recalibrate it.
I called Safelite to check on their policy, and they concurred at the main customer service line that this was now my responsibility not theirs, but no worry, the insurance company should pay for it all, but I’ll have to pay for it first and get reimbursed later.
So here I sit two weeks into a wi shield crack repair, another two weeks to go likely before I can get into a dealer to try to do the work, with a dashboard full of error lights I didn’t have before I went in today, and having to pay close to $500 out of pocket to find the repair that Safelite should have been able to do.
Oh, and then I find tiny shards of glass on my passenger seat, and I would particularly like to thank the shop for smoking extensively while they had the vehicle for three hours. My car smells distinctly like an ashtray now.
Avoid this place if at all possible, and I’d say further maybe avoid Safelite in general. Their corporate office couldn’t care less about really delivering on customer service.
