Ignition interlock device installations usually take 1-2 hours at your local Official Intoxalock Location, depending on the make and model of your vehicle. You can either wait for the installation to be complete in a waiting area or can drop off your vehicle for pick-up later.

Depending on which state you live in, you will need to have your device calibrated every 30 to 180 days. These calibrations make sure your device accurately reads and records your breath alcohol concentration with every sample you provide.

Removing your ignition interlock or breathalyzer device is easy. Your installer will remove the device and will mail it back to Intoxalock for you. It's important that only your Official Intoxalock installer disconnect your ignition interlock device.

Sales people will tell you anything to get you to commit, I have been being lied to since last week a d my problem is still not corrected, nearly impossible to get anyone to answer, I have waited on hold since this problem well over 3 hours, I have been told that they were going to email me what was discussed with the customer service rep, still nothing I have been being told since last Friday that I would get an email I was told that I would get an email today for my last conversation, great sales tactic to have the sales representative make all kinds of promises but if they don't put it in their notes you are pretty much SOL,I am going to have my intoxalot device removed from my vehicle and have another installer from lifesaver install one of their devices put in

Nearly impossible to get a hold of. The service is supposed to include roadside assistance however when I called roadside assistance said I didn't exist in the system. I managed to get a hold of intoxalock they told me have it towed and submit the receipt and I would be refunded. I followed ever instruction that I was given and intoxalock refused to reimburse me.

Terrible so far to do that type of breathing every 5 minutes is craziness. And a set up for failure in the process. Here’s to three years with this thing. Wish I would’ve done my homework.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.

What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
