Ignition interlock device installations usually take 1-2 hours at your local Official Intoxalock Location, depending on the make and model of your vehicle. You can either wait for the installation to be complete in a waiting area or can drop off your vehicle for pick-up later.

Depending on which state you live in, you will need to have your device calibrated every 30 to 180 days. These calibrations make sure your device accurately reads and records your breath alcohol concentration with every sample you provide.

Removing your ignition interlock or breathalyzer device is easy. Your installer will remove the device and will mail it back to Intoxalock for you. It's important that only your Official Intoxalock installer disconnect your ignition interlock device.

Service center was excellent, but as far as the intoxalocks goes it sucks on the way home from the service center. It pulls a random on me and I'm not used to it yet. Trying to blow on this thing going down the road when it says you have 5 minutes. That's bologna. I stopped at a McDonald's and tried to blow into it. Wasn't familiar with it totally yet. Didn't do it right. Not in time. Horn started blaring made me even more nervous, long story short now I have to have a service to reset the device. 75$ fee called intoxalox and they said did you pass Yes 000 every time. So I'm really upset. Code 3 timed out. Not happy. They said it should be reset will find out Monday out of town with the wife she's driving her car.

It has me blow while I'm driving not infrequently like they said but every time sometimes multiple in one trip it's extremely unsafe however I guess that's just state regulations. but the intoxalock representatives are decent to work with especially Blanca 👍

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.

What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
