TLDR: Guy's Cycle is a great shop with people that love to ride and got my bike back to me better than it was before. I like to wrench on my own bike but feel better knowing that when something happens beyond my abilities I have a great shop to go to.
Longer version...
While I'm comfortable with mechanical and electrical work, I'm new to motorcycles at age 50 last year. In December '25 I got a '13 Vulcan 900 Classic LT with 19.5k miles. I put almost 4k miles on it between December and the end of May '26. Of course, the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, my stator died. Kinda wasn't surprised given the age of the bike and how hard I started riding it in the winter. Through that time I'd upgraded all lighting to LED, added a new USB charger and CarPlay head unit on a relay, put on new tires myself, changed the oil/plugs/air filter. When it died I knew enough to get the multimeter out and test the legs on the stator wires to the rectifier and against ground on the frame. No bueno.
So, I called Guy's and asked him for an estimate which he gave and took the time to challenge me on my diagnostic. In a good way, to make sure that the diagnosis wasn't wrong or that it wasn't something I could tweak otherwise. He suggested replacing the rectifier and battery as well, which I agreed with. Yes, more money, but I’d rather replace them if they’d been stressed by a failing stator than just replace the stator to make the estimate look lower and end up back in the shop a few months later. What impressed me most was that he didn’t just accept my diagnosis at face value—he walked through the reasoning with me to make sure we weren’t throwing parts at the bike unnecessarily.
Of course, Memorial Day Weekend plus spring (when everyone wants to get their bikes out of storage and on the road) didn't leave me hopeful of getting it back soon. No, didn't get it back as fast as I wanted (who does?) but got it back in an entirely reasonable span. They even tolerated my occasional calls checking on where it was in the process. It even came in a little cheaper than I was expecting because they know their stuff and knew what the work would take and so estimated it very accurately.
I took it out for about 100 miles after I picked it up and aside from the electricals working, the shifting was tighter and everything just felt great. I feel like I got a reborn bike and am confident heading out for longer road trips now knowing my electrical system is solid.
While I hope I don't have to see him again soon, I know that if I need help, I've got a place I can trust.
