- CSChris ScottSep 6, 20261.0I'm currently stuck here doing my 34-hour reset, and my truck batteries happened to run low. I got a jump and came straight to this Advance Auto Parts to have them tested and charged. Running OTR hotshot, I pulled in with my dog, walked inside, and politely asked to use the restroom since I'd be stuck there for a while. The employee told me to ask the manager, who flat-out refused and told me they don't have public restrooms. When I pointed out I was going to be sitting there for an hour and asked what I was supposed to do, the manager's brilliant response was: "Well, get the batteries out of your truck and bring them in." So there I was, unbolting two heavy batteries from my Dodge Ram 3500 in the parking lot while desperately needing to go. When I struggled through their doors carrying both heavy batteries, they couldn't even be bothered to hold the door open. Sonic nearby was no help either, but I walked across the street to Parlor Donuts, and the contrast was incredible. The staff there were super kind, immediately let me use the restroom, and even gave my dog a pup cup. Skip the cold corporate attitude at Advance Auto Parts and give your business to Parlor Donuts across the street where they actually know how to treat human beings.

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
