He didn’t really look up from his computer and told me that what was on display was all they had. I ended up buying the set for $60, but later realized the bits were too long to fit the tight space I needed them for. When I came back to return it, the interaction was frustrating. Tony made several comments about the packaging being open, seemed visibly annoyed, and at one point tossed my receipt across the counter. Overall, it felt like a very unprofessional way to handle a simple return, and there wasn’t much effort to help find a solution. Because of this experience, I’ll likely just order the part I need off Amazon and avoid advance auto in the future.

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
