  I wanted to purchase a "used" vehicle from an out-of-state dealer. A friend of mine suggested Tuffy Auto (Tim), 2031 S. Rte. 59, Plainfield, IL. I called and spoke with Eric, explained my situation, Eric patiently listened and told me to have the dealer bring the car over and they would check the car's condition for me. Let me just say, I purchased that vehicle, based on Tuffy giving the car a "CLEAN" bill of health. Tuffy is professional and most of all, knowledgeable. If you want to know the TRUE condition of a used vehicle, Tuffy is the place to go. Thank you, Tuffy!!

  They were on time! They preformed a complete check of my truck. Informed me of a couple of issues that they found. Knew about them. They have never tried to make a sale that was not necessary. Have been coming here for a few years and have always felt comfortable with them handling all my auto issues.

  Justin and Doug and the whole team were great. Had oil change and they found 2 of my tires were too old. They are a weird size but they called around and found some and they got them same-day. It was an unexpected expense and they showed me the various financing places they work with. Got it all sorted in short order. They were all very professional, kind and sincere. I'll definitely come back. Thanks team.

  I am going to be honest here. I stopped in for an emergency, my kia soul was misfiring and this was the closest place to me. I was thankful at the time that they got me in right away because I was on my way to work and my son had a half day of school that day. They ran a diagnostic on my misfire and told me that they had to change 2 spark plugs but there was still a misfire. They supposedly changed all 4 spark plugs and told me that my coils were good and pressure was fine signifying a deeper cylinder issue. While I was waiting I heard him say to 2 customers about their oil change price being around $50. I ask them to add that if they had time and he mentioned for my car it would be less than $50. They mentioned they like to do oil changes with little profit margin to keep customers happy. As I was being explained how my engine was probably past repair and they had to order a better diagnostic tool to further assess my misfire and how they could source a used engine if needed (since i couldnt afford to replace this vehicle with a used one, which they suggested I should do) I had to leave by noon to get my son from the bus. The mechanic came in saying they did not perform the oil change yet then goes back on the shop floor and comes right back out saying someone else did it and he just needed to add the sticker to my car. I left with a slightly better running engine still misfiring but had no choice. while I waited for the new diagnostic tool to arrive. 3 days go by, no update so I call and I am told the tool arrived damaged. I decided to tow it to the dealership for a second opinion where they told me my coil was bad. I then took it to a 3rd mechanic for their opinion where he showed me that I had less than a qt of dirty oil and a slightly rusted rim of an old oil filter signifying Tuffy did not perform the oil change but certainly did charge me for it. I also had to replace all 4 spark plugs again, unsure if they even changed them all in the first place. I was given the run around when I confronted them about the lack of service. They finally refunded me for my oil change only. PLEASE MAKE SURE BEFORE YOU LEAVE THAT THEY ACTUALLY PERFORM THE WORK YOU PAID FOR. I have been scammed by not just this plainfield tuffys but batavia as well (not doing an inspection before performing work on my breaks and a few other small repairs and failing to notify me the condition of my frame, they did make it right by inspecting at least 6 used cars for free) and my brother in law has been scammed by the aurora tuffys (telling him his car was a loss when it was a simple fix). I am a woman but I am not dumb and helpless and I will not be preyed upon by untrustworthy mechanics! If you schedule a serious service here I highly suggest you get a second opinion from a different shop and ALWAYS check your oil before you leave. NEVER will I support a tuffys again!!
