Ignition interlock device installations usually take 1-2 hours at your local Official Intoxalock Location, depending on the make and model of your vehicle. You can either wait for the installation to be complete in a waiting area or can drop off your vehicle for pick-up later.

Depending on which state you live in, you will need to have your device calibrated every 30 to 180 days. These calibrations make sure your device accurately reads and records your breath alcohol concentration with every sample you provide.

Removing your ignition interlock or breathalyzer device is easy. Your installer will remove the device and will mail it back to Intoxalock for you. It's important that only your Official Intoxalock installer disconnect your ignition interlock device.

If I could give negative stars I would. Where to start? I have this voluntarily because of personal issues and every time I go to recalibrate there’s an issue. Regardless of my lease is paid or not. Also one of their machines stopped working and it took me 2 years and at least 2 dozen calls to get them to send me the box to the right location. Afterwords they tried to charge me a 40 dollar shipping fee that was never discussed or mentioned at all. Now on the day of my removal I was hung up on and had to jump through hoops to get my 40 dollars credited to the removal. On top of it I called 2 weeks ago to schedule the removal through Intoxalock and when I showed up this morning the mechanic had no idea why I was there and had no appointment from me. Everyone you talk to at Intoxalock has a different set of rules they follow. Worst company I’ve ever dealt with hands down. Total rework of your system needs to be done

Installed the device with a clean and neat install. The Owner is professional, polite and cares. I would definitely recommend him and his shop.

The installation and instructions were great but the device itself is insanely dangerous. Its almost impossible to correctly do the test that requires 10 seconds of breathing as hard as you can and I have failed and had to retest multiple times while driving on the highway. I cant believe its allowed to be like this honestly.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.

What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
