Ignition interlock device installations usually take 1-2 hours at your local Official Intoxalock Location, depending on the make and model of your vehicle. You can either wait for the installation to be complete in a waiting area or can drop off your vehicle for pick-up later.

Depending on which state you live in, you will need to have your device calibrated every 30 to 180 days. These calibrations make sure your device accurately reads and records your breath alcohol concentration with every sample you provide.

Removing your ignition interlock or breathalyzer device is easy. Your installer will remove the device and will mail it back to Intoxalock for you. It's important that only your Official Intoxalock installer disconnect your ignition interlock device.

Dealing with this company has been a waking nightmare from Day 1. Their outdated equipment has twice drained my car battery in a few months. For $ paid, service is awful. IF you can get a person on the phone, he/she is very difficult to comprehend. I also believe their equipment is distorting my emissions test, leaving monitors "not ready" to read after installing new equipment, INCLUDING a recall emissions oxygen sensor from GM. Mechanic fears legal trouble and therefore will not disconnect device to give me an engine diagnostic test to find out WHY monitors remain "not ready". This has continued for months & their reps keep telling me things I should do to deal with this asinine machinery. All I should have to do is blow & drive, and of course cough up their money monthly. I'll have this piece of garbage removed from my vehicle ASAP, moving on to a cheaper & more reputable vendor. I would not recommend them to my worst enemy.

People on the bone are hard to understand at times. I think the device is very annoying to have in your car. Where is your batteries down in your car? You get lockouts for no reason. I'm going to charge you for it. Hope nobody else ever has to get one of these in their car

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance.
