We used Alamo for our rental trip from Chicago to Indiana. They gave us a Prius that had a check engine light come on once we got to Indiana. While it was an inconvenience, Alamo and enterprise made it right! The enterprise service guy at the Columbia city Indiana location was really nice. He helped us easily swap out the car for a new one and even told us we could return the car without filling up for gas. Then the Alamo manager back in Chicago Ord airport gave us $50 off for the troubles. So free gas and $50 off definitely made it right. I’m happy I used them as the customer service and car was excellent. Will use them again!

Here's a tighter version built for review sites (Google, Yelp, BBB, Trustpilot) — punchy enough to hold attention but still factual so it can't be flagged as unsubstantiated ranting: ⭐ 1/5 — Stranded 18 hours because of one hostile employee Our flight got diverted to St. Louis during a weather delay over July 4th weekend, with a reservation booked for O'Hare. Alamo confirmed by phone that switching pickup to St. Louis and drop-off to O'Hare would be fine given the weather delay. Showed up to the St. Louis location and got a completely different story from an employee named Robin — rude, dismissive, and visibly annoyed that we'd interrupted her personal phone call at 3am. She refused to honor what we'd been told, tried to force us into a brand new reservation that only let us return the car to St. Louis (defeating the entire purpose), and wouldn't listen to a word we said. Ended up stranded at the airport for 18 hours with zero help. It got worse: when we finally got to O'Hare, our reservation had been locked and falsely marked as "car already picked up" — apparently something Robin did on her way out. A manager had to manually clear it before we could get the car we'd already paid for. The O'Hare team was fantastic and saved the whole trip — no complaints there. But the St. Louis location and this employee specifically are a disaster. Do yourself a favor and rent from literally anywhere else.

We rented a car from O'Hare Airport for our trip to Canada, but we encountered significant issues while in Niagara Falls when the dashboard malfunctioned, and we were left without air conditioning. Although we had purchased roadside assistance from Alamo, we discovered that their support only covers mechanical problems, which left us stranded in 90-degree weather with our 5-year-old without a working fan or AC. To resolve this, we had to make an exhausting two-and-a-half-hour drive to Toronto to exchange the vehicle. This delay not only disrupted our travel plans but also raised serious safety concerns for our child's well-being in the extreme heat. Upon returning the car at O'Hare Airport, we spoke with Jordan, the manager on duty. He listened attentively to our concerns and offered a genuine apology for the inconvenience we endured. To our surprise, he proactively offered us a discount, which we greatly appreciated. While our initial experience was frustrating, Jordan's exceptional service and willingness to make things right truly stood out. It’s my hope that all Alamo employees can emulate his remarkable customer service skills. The five-star rating here is for Jordan.

I have not rented from Alamo since I had a bad experience in the 90’s. I was getting more and more dissatisfied with my main rental car company so I thought I would try Alamo again now it is linked to National which is a great company. Everything about the rental was absolutely first class. Starting with the reservation for pick up at O’Hare. I opted for a pre pay as I am sick of security deposits being charged up and not being canceled for weeks. Alamo had a clear set of requirements and competitive prices. No endless trying to upsell insurance, fuel, toll pass, sirius xm etc etc. They had a good choice of vehicles and despite being booked over 4th of July weekend they had my booked Full Size Pick up. Excellent condition, not covered in dents and marks and it was low mileage. I did the pre register for check in and went straight to car bypassing the long lines. Vehicle worked faultlessly and was a higher spec than booked with 4 wheel drive. Check in and return were so easy and bill was correct with no problems. Unlike LAX the Consolidated Rental Car building has a working people mover and is a joy to use. Everyone at Alamo was very helpful and as I have a mobility issue they went out of their way to help me. I am going to start using Alamo a lot more regularly. None of the issues that are growing at the others like “We don’t have that model”, an old vehicle covered in scratches and dents with burns in upholstery, attempting to charge for fuel when you have filled up and an accounts department who ignore your emails when they have made errors in charging, and the dreaded security deposits which seem to vary in amounts and how long it takes to release. So over all I am very impressed with Alamo and I recommend their O’Hare operation to anyone who wants a customer focused professional pleasant experience with no hidden surprises.
