Before I start this review - This location wasn't the issue, but it's the only place I can leave a review directly to Penske in the Davenport area. Buckle up and let me take you on a "ride".
Day 1
I booked and paid for everything online. Pick up at 2pm at the Duck Creek Plaza Home Depot. I get there and I'm told there's a $900 balance. I told him I already paid online. There's nothing he can do, CALL PENSKE. So, I do. Issue gets resolved. Then another guy at Home Depot says - "I hope you don't need blankets, because we don't have them." I said I do indeed. I also need a dolly. They don't have those either. What can I do? Say it with me class. CALL PENSKE. So, I do. They tell me to go to their Penske Truck Rental location (the one I'm writing the review for) but to hurry because they close at 3:30pm. My pick-up was scheduled at 2pm, I'll let you do the math.
I get the keys and hurry to the truck. I get in and see the DEF Fuel meter is in the red. I don't know what that means, I'm just a girl, so I go back inside and ask. "Truck will shut down without it. Buy some, Penske will reimburse you. They should've filled it up, but I guess they failed to." Surprise, 3rd way Penske failed today...
I buy the DEF fuel and hurry to the Penske Truck Rental. I got there around 3:40pm. My friends are calling me. I'm late. I'm embarrassed. This place provided me with everything I needed including the DEF fuel - so if anything, this place deserves 5 stars. I finally get back to mine to load up the truck.
Day 2
Rainy day. Back to Home Depot to get the trailer. I hook it up, pull out the ramps and line up my car. As I'm loading it onto the trailer, the moment my car's right front tire makes contact with the trailer, the ramp comes crashing down along with my car and my front bumper. I have a 3-door hatchback. Not a monster truck. Just a small, light car. I attempted to insert the ramp back in its place with no success, so I went to get people from the Home Depot to assist me. 2 men and a woman come out, they look, realize they won't be able to insert that ramp back either (it's broken), so guess what they say? CALL PENSKE! At this point I'm irritated, soaking wet, my car is messed up and here I am again on the phone with Penske. Luckily there was another Penske trailer right next to the one that just obliterated my vehicle, so Penske tells me to take that, they'll make note of it, and call their claims department when I get a chance to file a claim. I hook up the other trailer, car goes up smooth as butter (in case ya'll thought this was a skill issue). An hour and a half late, but finally... on the road. Anyone who has ever moved knows that moving is stressful in itself. Within 24hrs, Penske managed to waste 3~ hours of my time, some of my friends' time, and damaged my vehicle.
I get to my location around 6pm, I realize it's best to drop-off the trailer right away. I go to my drop-off location - the gates are closed. No one on site. Wasted trip.
Day 3 - Sunday
Unloaded everything, time to take the truck back. I pull up my drop-off location, but fool me once, not twice, so I check their hours. They're closed on Sundays. Period. I call, no answer. I'm thinking - It's 2026. Why can I select a drop-off location online that isn't open on the day I'm trying to drop the truck off...? Did AI not figure this one out for ya? Surprising.
Anyway. Guess what? CALL PENSKE! Penske tells me to drop the truck off at another location that's way further but at this point I don't even care, just take this truck off my hands.
And now for the best part. This was 2 weeks ago. I've been trying to get my claim resolved ever since. I called multiple times. No answer. I left voicemails... wrote emails... nothing.
Stay away from Penske if you can help it.
