I needed a rental car for our Maui portion of our vacation. The concierge on the cruise ship made a rental car reservation with Thrifty at the Airport in Maui. The line up was huge when we arrived. I asked my wife to stand in line and I walked over to Sixt where I have always had a great experience. Bridget at Sixt delivered! She was polite, friendly, and helpful. I was given a great car at a good price. My wife had hardly moved in the line when our transaction was complete with Sixt. I will always seek help from Sixt first in future!!!
If you are flying into Maui and want a seamless, premium car rental experience to kick off your vacation, look no further than SIXT at the Kahului Airport (OGG). From the moment I stepped off the plane, the entire experience was nothing short of amazing.
The pickup location itself is on the smaller side, which actually works heavily to its advantage. Unlike the massive, chaotic, and exhausting lines you usually encounter with legacy rental companies, SIXT was incredibly fast, efficient, and streamlined. The staff on-site were the definition of professional—welcoming, courteous, and deeply respectful of my time.
The absolute highlight of the experience, however, was how they handled my vehicle assignment. I had originally booked a BMW X1. When I arrived at the counter, the agent politely informed me that they didn't have the exact X1 I had booked available at that moment. Instead of giving me a generic substitute or making me wait around, they immediately offered an incredible, complimentary upgrade to a **BMW X6**. Needless to say, I was absolutely thrilled.
The car itself was in pristine, top-tier condition. The interior was immaculate, spotlessly clean, and packed with all the premium tech and luxury features you could possibly want for cruising around the island. The driving dynamics and beautiful cabin space made navigating the scenic Maui roads an absolute dream.
SIXT truly knows how to take care of their customers. They turned a potential logistical hiccup into an ultimate vacation upgrade. I cannot recommend them enough for your next Hawaii trip—a well-deserved 10 out of 10 experience!

I recently rented a vehicle from this location for a week-long trip to Maui and have previously rented from Sixt at other US locations. Pick-up is very convenient just across the street from the main airport terminal in the rental car center and the employee was nice enough though somewhat pushy with trying to get me to change from a sedan to an SUV and buy all the additional coverages the company offers. The car itself was not in as good of a condition as prior cars I've rented from Sixt, it had a number of scuffs/scratches/dings on the exterior and the car starting indicating it needed an oil change the second day we had it.
Upon return, the agent noted some "new" cosmetic issues with the exterior of the vehicle which were certainly not new. Fortunately, we had taken images of the exterior of the vehicle ourselves on pick-up to prove that and the company did not dispute this. We did pass through an AI-scanner at pick-up to identify issues, but the technology is either really bad or designed to try to extract additional revenue from customers in a dishonest way. There is apparently a way to note damages to Sixt on pick-up, but the agent did not mention to this us as he was too busy pushing upgrades.
Overall, I'm undecided but probably would not chose to rent from Sixt again on a return trip to Maui. I've had better experiences with Sixt in other cities, but those were also prior to the introduction of AI into car rental agencies.
We had such an amazing experience with our rental car! Roelen surprised us with a complimentary BMW upgrade for our honeymoon, and it truly made our trip feel extra special. The BMW had such a smooth, comfortable, and luxurious ride — perfect for exploring the island in style.
The car was clean, well-maintained, and so fun to drive. We were incredibly grateful for the thoughtful honeymoon upgrade and outstanding customer service from Roelen. Highly recommend — this gesture made our honeymoon even more memorable! 🚘✨

We did not have a good experience with this location. At the start of the rental, I was surprised to be told that driving the car to the beach would result in an extra fee. I’ve been renting cars for over 10 years, and no one has ever tried to restrict where I could or couldn’t drive.
The car itself was also below expectations. The brakes were clearly worn out—very squeaky—and you had to press them well in advance to ensure the car would stop safely. When I reported this issue at drop-off, the staff simply responded with “oh, ok,” without any apology or concern.
The day after the reservation, I received an invoice that was $200 higher than what I was originally quoted. I assume this was an additional charge for my wife, who didn’t even drive the car, and this fee was never clearly explained beforehand.
Overall, I would not recommend this location
