I rented a car from the Enterprise location at 3055 N Nimitz Hwy about three weeks ago. My reservation was made at the last minute because the airport location had no cars available.
When I picked up the vehicle (a Mitsubishi), I noticed it was in pretty rough condition. There were scratches on the hood, doors, and trunk, and the tires even had white paint all over them. I wasn’t happy with the condition, but the staff assured me that all existing damage had already been documented.
Since I was planning to return the car to the airport (my flight was at 7:00 AM, while this location didn’t open until 7:30 AM), I was worried the airport might not have the same inspection records. To protect myself, I recorded a video of the car when I picked it up. After arriving at my hotel, I looked over the vehicle again and recorded a second video because of its overall condition.
I returned the car on July 2.
About two weeks later, I received a damage claim from Enterprise. Even though I wasn’t expecting it, I honestly wasn’t surprised either—I had worried about this exact situation. I’ve been renting cars for about six years, mostly from Enterprise, and this was the first time I’d ever received a damage claim.
Fortunately, because I had taken those two videos, I disputed the claim and submitted the evidence.
About a week later, Tiffany, the Area Manager for Oahu, called me to better understand what had happened. At first, I was hesitant to talk because I was worried I might accidentally say something that could be used against me. However, Tiffany explained that she simply wanted to understand the full situation. After I explained everything and she reviewed my videos, she decided to withdraw the claim.
I really appreciate how professionally this was handled. They didn’t simply assume I was responsible—they reviewed the evidence, listened to my explanation, and made a fair decision based on the facts.
The only suggestion I would make is to improve communication and damage record sharing between different Enterprise locations, especially when customers return vehicles to a different branch. If that was the reason for the misunderstanding, better data sharing could help prevent similar situations in the future.
I originally planned to leave 4 stars because the claim did cause me a lot of unnecessary stress. However, Tiffany’s professionalism, patience, and fairness completely changed my experience. Thank you, Tiffany, for taking the time to investigate and resolve everything. Because of the way this was handled, I’m happy to leave 5 stars.
