We had a great experience with the Alamo staff and process. Picking up the car was smooth and took very little effort. When we went to the rental row, the selection was a bit limited—it was a row of the exact same brand and model, just in different colors. We managed to find a Kia Rio with very low mileage, hoping it would feel fresh.
Alamo’s pricing was excellent at just over $40 a day, and the fuel economy was incredible—it took just over a gallon to top it off before returning it.
That being said, the car itself was pretty terrible. It was a 3-cylinder model with incredibly poor acceleration. We know it's an economy car and didn't expect much, but it was barely good enough to keep up on the Honolulu freeways.
Rent from Alamo for the awesome prices and easy process, but maybe skip the base economy class if you plan on doing a lot of highway driving here!

First time we had a positive experience with a rental company. We booked in the app, uploaded identification info so we could skip the checkout counter. You get to go to the lot and pick a car, unfortunately this was our only slight disappointment as an employee chose us to walk up to and “help” she told us what car to take not allowing us to pick. I believe it was a Subaru Impreza and we were wanting a different brand as we find Subaru seats uncomfortable and my husband hates their steering wheel design but she told us to take it and head to the exit so we did. Overall it was a positive experience with no hidden extra fees we were truly charged what we were shown during reservation without having to resolve anything and for that alone I would pick Alamo again.

I pre registered online for the agreement days before the trip and it was supposed to help us go through the procedure at the airport. It wasn't the case. I had to be in line just like all others. Somehow they were having trouble with their computer system and I had to give them my credit card twice at the airport because they didn't have on file. The worst scenario was once we found our rental, we had wait in line in the garage for over 40 minutes to be checked out. It was frustrating and angering. It was the worst experience for me at a car rental ever! After I dropped off the car the following day, the attendant couldn't find my contract so I. had to give my him my credit card for the third time. He was very apologetic for troubles and I appreciated that. That's the reason for the two stars.

Customer Service, Far from it in Meeting Anyone’s Expectations. I Have High Standards and Expectations but the Enterprise Company (Umbrella of Rental Cars) in this case Alamo just cannot meet customer demands, long line waits with minimal staff. The company operates between two levels in the common rental facility and is incapable of moving return cars and replenishing clean (Dry) cars by anyone’s standards to pick up area where there is typically another long line of waiting customers ahead of you. Not All Employees Exzude Friendliness or Aloha Spirit! Try Self Check In as the POP Signage Suggests, Gong! Go through the process only to be prompted Unable to Process or Abrupt Rude Employee hollering across the lobby that you need to still check in which I was sternly advised. I’ve met a few excellent employees and they are the ones wearing name tags that will openly greet you with a smile, ask how you are doing or how was your rental experience and graciously thank you before just blurting so you have a reservations? Name? Or just returning closing out rental and advise your receipt is in your email on file. Majority Do Not Have Name Tags, Exit Booth Employees have the best jobs sitting in their A/C booths and door rolls open as you drive up. In this day and age of technology, here’s the best experience, need to exchange vehicles? Well you wait for employee to manually write out on a slip of paper vehicle information, mileage gas and it’s handed to you. Then you proceed to 3rd Floor and guess what the Wait in Line Game again with customers ahead of you all waiting that just rented. No priority to you that you had an vehicle issue. This is where the closing return part factors in. You don’t have an opportunity to share your concern or an opportunity to plead your case for some courtesy adjustment because too late. I wasn’t asked just told nothing can be done or call customer service! Survey Requires you to chose atleast one star to submit so I chose one.

This car rental experience with Alamo in Honolulu was probably one of the smoothest, quick and painless pick up and return procedure we've ever had renting a vehicle.
Our flight landed late at night at Honolulu airport, after taking the shuttle from our terminal to the rental facility, we found the Alamo counter quickly. Line wasn't long, and when we get to the counter the agent were polite and worked quickly to confirm our rental package made thru Costco with added booster seat and car seat for our kids.
Then we just take the lift down the garage to talk to an attendant there to pick our compact SUV. We were given the choice between the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander and the Subaru Forester. We picked the Outlander initially due to bigger infotainment screen for better back up camera while the Subaru has really small screen and dated interior. Through out the week we were very impressed with the Outlander and glad we picked it. Good power, good gas mileage, 360 camera were supper helpful in our super tight hotel parking garage and best of all, wireless Android Auto so I can use navigation and music just like with our car at home.
Return was a BREEZE !!! literally, they had ceiling fan in a covered but open air facility, most people might not appreciate it but I do b/c I have returned rental car in Florida in same fashion but in the sun and you are all sweaty for the flight after taking your luggage out and roll them to the closest covered area. Here at Alamo in Honolulu they were quick, too, before we even getting the back hatch open, attendant was already greeted us, asked us how the vehicle treated us thru the week and gave us a chance to ask questions, didn't ask us anything about the dents and scratches that were already there when we picked it up (we were worry and took pictures just in case). All in all, a great car rental experience! Highly recommend!
