I confirmed my rental online and expected the pickup process to be straightforward. Unfortunately, my experience with this particular Enterprise location was extremely frustrating, stressful, and unprofessional.
When I called to arrange a ride to the rental location, the agent repeatedly entered my address incorrectly. I spelled out my address and spoke slowly to ensure there was no misunderstanding, yet I was initially told that they did not provide pickup service from my address. I explained that I live less than two miles from the location. After placing me on hold, the agent returned and said that they had the correct information and that the driver was on the way.
I also informed the agent that the driver would need a gate code to enter my apartment community. I was told that the driver would call me for that information. Unfortunately, the driver went to an entirely different location that was significantly farther from my home. When he called, I had to explain that he was at the wrong apartment complex and redirect him. I ultimately had to text him the correct information as well. This caused a significant delay, resulting in my being late for my rental pickup and for the appointments and responsibilities I had scheduled that day.
Once I arrived at the rental location, I encountered additional problems. I was told that because I had completed and confirmed my reservation online, the location could not access certain information associated with my rental. I was then asked to provide utility bills or other pieces of mail, three personal references, and a $300 authorization hold on my account. None of these requirements were communicated to me during the online reservation process or in my confirmation. Had I known these documents and references were required, I would have brought them with me.
Instead, I had to spend additional time locating and pulling up my lease, gas bill, and electric bill while the time continued to pass. This added unnecessary stress and significantly contributed to the delays I experienced that day.
There was also an issue with the vehicle itself. The vehicle smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. I have asthma, so this was particularly concerning. I was told that if I returned the vehicle smelling of smoke, I could be charged a cleaning or smoking fee. I explained that the vehicle already smelled of smoke when I received it, and the employee stated that she documented this on her tablet.
Overall, this was a high-stress and high-anxiety experience. Between the difficulty arranging the pickup, the driver going to the wrong location, the unexpected documentation and reference requirements, the additional time spent resolving those issues, and receiving a vehicle that smelled of smoke, I lost a considerable amount of time and was late for an appointment.
I have always considered Enterprise to be a reputable company and expected a certain level of professionalism and customer service. Unfortunately, my experience at this particular location did not meet those expectations.
I was also disappointed by the conduct of the employees at the counter. During my visit, the three women working behind the desk spent a significant amount of time talking among themselves about their hair and getting their hair braided rather than focusing their attention on assisting customers. This contributed to an overall impression of poor customer service and a lack of professionalism.
I sincerely hope Enterprise reviews the procedures and customer service practices at this location. Customers should be clearly informed of all documentation, identification, reference, and deposit requirements before arriving, and transportation arrangements should be handled accurately and efficiently. Based on this experience, I would have to think twice before using this particular location again.
