I had a very frustrating experience with Mavis Tires & Brakes. When I dropped my truck off, I could hear employees in the back complaining about having to do an alignment on it, which immediately made me uncomfortable. I specifically told them that my truck can be tricky to start and that they needed to leave it running. I explained that you have to wiggle the key a certain way to get it started. Despite me giving them that information, they didn’t listen. I later received a call claiming that my truck needed a lot more work than just an alignment. However, when I arrived to pick it up, I found out they hadn’t even moved my truck because they couldn’t get it started. What made the situation even worse was that I was then given another explanation—that the issue was because my truck wouldn’t fit in their machine. That didn’t match what I had been told over the phone, and at that point I had very little confidence in what I was being told. The whole experience came across as unprofessional and dishonest. If a customer gives you specific instructions about their vehicle, especially something as important as how to start it, you should listen. And if there’s a problem, just be upfront about it instead of giving customers conflicting explanations. I won’t be bringing my truck back here, and based on this experience, I would recommend taking your vehicle somewhere else.

Austin is a lifesaver. Our rental car blew a flat on the way back to Tampa from backpacking in the Blue Ridges and we were well out of our element. I rolled in on a spare and with nary a question asked our full size tire was plugged and we were back on the road in no time at all. Grateful that kindness and quality service still exist

Mike, Austin and the team at Mavis (E Ellijay) are fantastic! I had just driven up from Florida and tore the panel off of the underside of my car. I gave them a call since my tires are from Mavis and I’ve had great service from them before. They got me right in and fixed my car up so I could get back on the road. Huge THANK YOU to the guys at Mavis! Y’all ROCK!!!

Unfortunately, my experience with Mavis in Ellijay was disappointing from beginning to end — not necessarily because of the work performed, but because of the customer service and complete lack of communication. Day 1: I had an 11:00 a.m. appointment to replace all four tires and the rear brakes. I dropped off my car and keys, gave the gentleman behind the counter my phone number, and even mentioned that I was walking just up the street to Zaxby’s to grab lunch while I waited. After 90 minutes with no call or update, I walked all the way back, only to be told they couldn’t start the work because my wheel-lock key wasn’t in the car and that they had “tried calling several times.” I had received no calls. Had someone actually reached me, I was only a few minutes away. I rescheduled for the following morning and was told to come early. I arrived about 10 minutes after opening, yet waited roughly an hour before my car was even brought into the shop, followed by another 75 minutes for the work to be completed. During that entire time, nobody checked in with me or provided an update. Both visits had the same general atmosphere: no greeting when you walk in, little interest in answering questions, and the feeling that customers are more of an inconvenience than people spending a substantial amount of money with the business. The second employee was somewhat friendlier, but still completely disengaged. When the work was finished, there was no “thank you for your business,” no “give us a call if you have any issues,” nothing. Later, I noticed in the confirmation email that the number they had on file was not mine and completely off and that I needed to return to have the lug nuts rechecked. I went back today and encountered the same unfriendly employee from Day 1. Once again, barely a greeting. He went outside, checked them, and returned a few minutes later. Done. The actual work appears to have been completed properly, which is why I’m giving 3 stars. But customer service and communication matter too. A simple greeting, an occasional update, answering questions without making the customer feel like a bother, and a “thank you” after someone spends a significant amount of money would go a long way. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this location and will take my business elsewhere in the future.
