On Thursday, April 23rd, 2026, I picked up a rental car at 9 AM for a 7.5 hour drive to Tampa, FL. By 10 AM, the oil light on the dash came on alongside an alert that the oil level/pressure was low. We turned around and went back this location. Upon arriving and describing the issue to the staff members, we were told that the car had just had an oil change and that the oil life timer must need to be reset. Though I knew that oil level, pressure, and life are all different things and that the oil life timer should not have any effect on the other elements, I figured that maybe they were right as this was a Mazda which I have no experience with. They turned the car off, went through the dash menus, and reset the oil life timer. We were told that we should call them if anything else comes up, that we should be fine to continue on, and that should we have any issues with the car, we could go to any Enterprise location to have it corrected and/or change cars.
Within about an hour, the same light came back on. We called them again, and were met with silence and confusion. We were simply told repeatedly that they didn’t know why the light was coming on and it just had an oil change. Eventually, we were told that we could turn around and come back again, and they could try to fix it, or we could go to another location and switch cars. We decided to switch cars as it seemed like a complete waste of time to go an hour back and for them to do the same thing just to have the same issue occur. We asked for the address of the nearest location to us, and received it after much silence and noises of confusion from the staff member we were speaking to. After pulling over and checking the oil level with the dipstick (which none of the staff bothered to do), we discovered that the oil was excessively full. When I first pulled the dipstick out, the entire thing was covered in oil which was incredibly odd. After wiping it off and rechecking, it measured over three times as high on the dipstick as it should have.
Upon arrival at the new location, we were told they did not have any cars available to rent to us, and that we should call another location. We ended up calling 3 different locations, none of which could or would help. At this point, we had already sunk 2.5 hours into trying to solve this issue, so we continued on and hoped for the best. During the rest of this drive, we also discovered that the wipers were so completely shot that you’d have better visibility in rain by using your hand to clear the windshield, the front doors loudly popped with every notch they opened, and the wiper fluid was at a level where accelerating and decelerating caused it to slosh back and forth over its sensor which caused the alert for that to flash on and off constantly.
I'll spare the details of our experiences with the Tampa locations and the Roadside Assistance service, but they were equally unhelpful.
We drove back on Monday the 27th. Historically, they have called me before 11 AM the next morning to finalize the return if the car is returned after close. However, they did not. I reached out to them at 1 PM on the 28th, and was able to speak with someone at 2:30 PM. I spoke to the same employee that I had been dealing with on the day of pick up who turned out to be the manager, Alexandra. She listened to my complaints and apologized for the trouble, but stated that all she could offer me was a free day on my next rental at this location before the end of this year.
Now I'm being told that because the credit card company waited 2 months to address the dispute I immediately opened requesting a partial refund, there's "absolutely nothing" this Enterprise location can do. They are also claiming they waived an additional driver fee, which is news to me. It's been the biggest runaround I've ever experienced. We live in Dahlonega, and everyone else in my family drives to Cumming or Gainesville specifically to avoid dealing with this location. I'll now be recommending everyone do the same. At the very least, don't deal with Alexandra.
