In addition to passing an ASE Certification test, automotive technicians must have two years of on the job training or one year of on the job training and a two-year degree in automotive repair to qualify for certification. Stopping distance is the span of road that it takes for a vehicle to come to a complete stop. Several factors determine the stopping distance of a tire. These include the materials and construction of the tire, its tread patterns and the vehicle on which it's mounted. That's why it is so important to choose the right tire for your car, van or truck. Insert a quarter upside down into your tire's tread. If the tread of your tire does not touch George Washington's head, it's time to have your tires replaced. Tread Depth & Wear: A simple way to determine whether you need tires is the quarter test. Insert a quarter upside down into your tire's tread. If the tread of your tire does not touch George Washington's head, it's time to have your tires replaced. 5/32" or greater depth - Your tires are in good condition and do not need to be replaced.4/32" Depth: Your tires should be monitored and you may notice a decline in wet weather performance. 3/32" Depth: Monitor your tires closely and replace them soon to ensure your vehicle is road ready, safe, and dependable. 2/32" Depth or less: You need tires now. Driving is unsafe with tires in this condition and should be replaced right away. Inflation: Check the air pressure monthly and before taking any long trips. Poor inflation can cause premature wear, increased fuel consumption and tire failure. Rotation: Your tires should be rotated every 3,000-5,000 miles. When done consistently, this helps maintain proper traction and gives you the maximum tread life. Eye Check Daily: Inspect your tires daily for penetrations, bulges, cracks, and abnormal wear. Every JASPER reman gas engine is completely disassembled. Blocks, heads, connecting rods, crankshafts and camshafts are thoroughly cleaned through a variety of processes to remove contaminants that can result in premature wear to internal engine components and early engine failure. CRANKSHAFTS are precision machined to exact tolerances with no odd size bearings or journals. Thrust surfaces (domestic engines) are micro-polished to provide precise surface finishes for smooth engine operation and reduced thrust bearing wear. Every journal is inspected and measured with critical accuracy. After machining, oil holes are chamfered to improve lubrication and every journal polished to a smooth finish for long bearing life. Crankshafts are thoroughly cleaned with special emphasis to flushing and brushing out oil passages to remove any contaminants. CAMSHAFTS are inspected for wear, dimensional accuracy and gauged for straightness. Camshaft lobes are carefully machined to correct specifications. Each shaft is Parco-Lubricated to improve lubricant adhesion, especially during break-in. Any camshaft not meeting JASPER's exact specifications is replaced. CYLINDERS are bored and honed to exact specifications. Most gas engines are torque plate honed - a process we learned from our involvement in NASCAR - that eliminates cylinder distortion after the head is bolted and torqued to the block. This process eliminates a major cause of engine blow-by. Blocks are carefully inspected for cracks and flaws through procedures such as magnetic particle inspection. Cylinder finish and size are closely monitored to industry surface finish standards as well as for accuracy and consistency. This assures smooth piston travel and engine performance. JASPER guarantees no odd size cylinders. The block to head mating surface is closely inspected and resurfaced as required to provide the correct surface finish for today's gasket materials. CONNECTING RODS are machined and gauged to within a half a thousandth for improved operation, especially in today's engines. Rods are carefully machined to avoid taper and to the standard diameter of original equipment. All rods are checked for bend and twist to assure smooth operation. HEADS are carefully inspected for cracks and flaws through procedures such as magnetic particle inspection. Every head is resurfaced to exact dimensional tolerances and the surface finish is carefully monitored for proper sealing with the block. Valve seats and guides are machined to exact specifications or replaced to assure correct valve alignment and seating and optimum engine performance. Remanufactured Differentials FAQ What is the difference between a used, rebuilt and remanufactured differential? USED. Used differentials are generally removed from a junkyard vehicle and may not even receive a surface cleaning to remove outside road dirt. Used differentials are normally not disassembled, internally cleaned, or inspected. Used or junkyard components often have high mileage along with a poor history of maintenance – this can be a failure waiting to happen. Used or junkyard differentials may also come from a vehicle that was involved in an accident. In this case, the differential may have unseen damage. REBUILT. Rebuilding is the reconditioning of components by cleaning, inspecting and replacing broken or severely worn parts. Rebuilt component quality can vary widely and many rebuilt products come with only a short term warranty. REMANUFACTURED. Remanufacturing is to make as closely to new as possible. Components are carefully inspected, checked against original equipment measured specifications for correct dimensional tolerances and precisely remanufactured. Replacement parts are new or requalified to meet exacting standards and tolerances. It’s important to note that later model vehicles are very noise sensitive, so care must be taken when selecting a replacement differential for your application. Used and rebuilt differentials may not take this issue into consideration. What is the warranty on a JASPER remanufactured differential? Most applications are covered by a 3 Year/100,000 mile (whichever occurs first) nationwide warranty – parts and labor. Ambulance, automotive off-highway use, package delivery, police, snow removal, taxi, tow truck, transit bus or any vehicle over 1 ton receive a warranty of 18 Months or 100,000 Miles, whichever occurs first. What is the difference between a standard/open differential and a limited slip differential? With a standard or open differential, the differential will send power to the wheel that is experiencing the least resistance when encountering loose gravel or ice, for example. A limited slip differential, however, will transmit more power to the wheel that is not spinning. Many people use the term PosiTraction for a limited slip differential. Do you offer a remanufactured differential for my vehicle? JASPER has immediate or very fast turnaround on over 500 ratios and applications so chances are good that we have a remanufactured differential for your vehicle application. JASPER remanufactures practically any differential for cars, trucks, vans and SUVs, and for a number of foreign applications as well. 2 Wheel Drive / 4 Wheel Drive Rear Differentials Jasper Engines and Transmissions offers a complete line of full-float and semi-float rear wheel drive differentials for Dana/Spicer, Dodge, Ford, GM, RAM and even Isuzu, Mercedes, Nissan and Toyota truck applications – up to 2 tons. The thorough remanufacturing processes of JASPER assure consistent quality and reliable performance: - Housings are checked for straightness and, if necessary, are straightened with an industrial grade press. - Bearings are preloaded to OEM specifications for longer bearing life, smooth operation and proper break-in. - Loctite® is applied to bearing races to ensure maximum securement. - Remanufactured differentials are inspected for correct backlash clearance to assure proper gear lubrication for reduced noise and to avoid overheating, especially in severe-duty applications. - Tooth contact pattern is inspected and adjusted to utilize the full structure of the gear for minimum gear noise and reduced fatigue. - Bearing bores on semi-float differentials are inspected for correct dimensional tolerances. Bores can become distorted from wear and if the bearing race has spun in the bore. Bores that are found to be out of round are machined and sleeved to original dimensions. - Electric and air lockers for Jeep differentials are installed if your application is so equipped.
