I stopped at this Advance Auto Parts around 3:00 PM after work to return a part I had purchased THE NIGHT BEFORE. The part didn’t fit, was completely UNUSED, and I had my RECEIPT. This should have been a simple, straightforward return. Instead, the assistant manager gave me a hard time and then actually told me he didn’t have $42 in the register to refund me. Seriously? At 3:00 in the afternoon, an assistant manager is telling a customer the store doesn’t have $42 available for a legitimate refund? I have OVER 20 YEARS of experience in the automotive parts industry. I told him that management is responsible for making sure the registers are prepared to operate and handle normal transactions throughout the business day. And then—MAGICALLY—the register opened and my $42 refund suddenly became available. So what changed? A customer should NEVER have to argue with management to receive a legitimate refund for an unused part purchased the night before with a receipt. In my opinion, this assistant manager needs SERIOUS RETRAINING in customer service, professionalism, and how to properly represent the company. Someone in a management position sets the tone for the entire store, and this experience made Advance Auto Parts look TERRIBLE. Corporate management needs to take a serious look at who they have representing and running this location. I got my $42 back, but Advance Auto Parts lost my confidence as a customer.

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
