  Been renting from National on a weekly basis for over 20 years. Just got the worst smelling vehicle ever in that time span. They doused it with air freshener so I didnt notice until I was leaving g work later that day. Smelled like rotting meat. And to boot there were flies on it. I haven’t complained much in 20 years but it was nauseating. There’s my input. PS please make cleaning the interior windshield of the car a major topic of your training. Across the country the windshields are filthy and you don’t see it until the sun goes down. Getting a little tired after 20 years

  The location I rented from was the Fort Lauderdale airport. My biggest issue is that being an executive elite emerald club member I was looking forward to a decent selection of cars. When I arrived there were 4 cars total. 2 Hyundai compacts, 1 base trim compact suv crossover, and the classic minivan. I notified my supervisor of the selection since we have a minimum standard of vehicle that we have to get and booking the full size plus my tier of emerald club should at least let me get a Durango or truck. I was told the selection was unacceptable and should wait for something to show up. I finally snagged a Mazda but still got in trouble. I have had the same issue in 3 other markets: CVG, PHL, and DFW. I understand that locations horde their large SUV’s and sports cars but the selection and options have definitely dried up in the past year. I have another trip in a month and I hope the selection improves. My advice is don’t get your hopes up and don’t expect any common decency from the lot employees. I was treated like I was a hassle which is fair but I was being polite and patient and was going to tip the attendant for helping me but not after the experience. I have asked my company to switch to another rental company that gives us more options and respect. If you fly into FLL expect nothing and jump on the first thing that catches your eye or is unlocked in the overflow lot.

  Returned car Early. Never received a confirmation receipt. Instead was given notice the next day that my rental had not been returned on time. Called customer service and was told they do not have record of me returning car. Went back and forth over the next 6-8 hours as to whereabouts of my vehicle. At one point was told not to worry that it was returned to wrong national return location. Emails began again a few hours later that the rental terms had been extended and a charge of $320 had been placed on my credit card. Customer service was next to useless resolving this matter. Finally had to get a ride to dropoff location at 11pm, 6 hrs before my flight back home. They had to look through security footage to prove I had returned car,still could not find it in inventory but at least my return was finalized. Using UBER next time, half the price and less hassle.

  Do yourself a favor for your next vacation: rent a car with National being sure to become an Emerald Club member first. I've been an Emerald Club member for years now and am grateful every time I get to the airport knowing that my choice of vehicle will be waiting for me to choose, get in and go. With an Emerald Club membership and a reservation for an Emerald Aisle car class you choose any vehicle on the row - usually dozens to choose from at my frequent destinations like FLL, MIA and PBI. Whether you are travelling alone or with family you can find just the size vehicle right for your trip. Because you're a member of Emerald Club your credit card is on file so you can skip the counter, choose your car and head to the exit where the attendant checks your identification, verifies fuel level and return date and you're off.

  ⭐⭐☆☆☆ Disappointed Emerald Club Experience at National Car Rental – FLL I have been a loyal Emerald Club member for years and have always been willing to pay a premium for the convenience of selecting my own vehicle from the Emerald Aisle. One of the biggest benefits of the program has always been access to a good variety of quality vehicles. Unfortunately, my recent rental from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) was very disappointing. It appears that National has significantly downsized the selection and quality of vehicles available in the Emerald Aisle. The choices were extremely limited and did not reflect the level of service or value I have come to expect as an Emerald Club customer. The ability to choose from a wide selection of vehicles is the primary reason I continue to rent with National. If that benefit is no longer being maintained, it becomes difficult to justify paying more for the program. I hope National takes a closer look at the vehicle availability and selection at FLL and restores the experience that loyal customers have come to expect. As it stands, this was one of the most disappointing rental experiences I've had with National.
