Extremely disappointing experience
I went to Valvoline for what should have been a routine oil change. Unfortunately, the experience ended with significant damage to my vehicle and, in my opinion, a very disappointing lack of honesty and responsibility from management.
As the oil change was being completed, two employees were having difficulty getting my hood to close properly. It appeared that the hood was not aligning correctly, so they called over the manager, Francis also referred to as Alan to assist
Instead of stopping when the hood was clearly not closing properly, he forced the hood closed. As he did, we heard a strange cracking sound. One of the employees immediately said to him, “You’re cracking it.”
At the time, I assumed they were talking about a piece of plastic because I could not imagine that they had just damaged my windshield without saying anything to me.
Unfortunately, I was wrong.
Immediately afterward, we were directed out of the bay and told, “Have a great day” and “Thank you for coming in.” Nobody mentioned that my windshield had been damaged. Nobody apologized. Nobody inspected the damage with me.
I pulled into the McDonald’s parking lot next door and immediately checked my vehicle. The corner of my windshield was severely damaged. This was not a small crack or a pre-existing chip. There were large cracks with pieces of glass separated and moving loosely.
I immediately returned to Valvoline and explained what had happened. I was told that Francis/Alan would speak with me. When I questioned why I had not been informed about the damage, I was given two different explanations.
First, I was told that he thought the employees had already told me despite the fact that he was standing there when the employee specifically said, “You’re cracking it”.
Then I was told that he did not realize the windshield wasn’t already damaged when I arrived.
I was then told that they would investigate the camera footage and get back to me.
I called Valvoline customer service myself immediately afterward. I was told that without a claim number, there was no reason for anyone to have reviewed the footage because no known incident had been reported.I had not even been given a claim number or a customer service number by the location, I had to find that information myself.
What upsets me most is not only the damage to my vehicle, but the way the situation was handled. I expected the business to take responsibility, be transparent about what happened, and at the very least acknowledge the damage and apologize. Instead, I was sent on my way without being told that my windshield had been damaged.
I am currently 8.5 months pregnant, which made the entire situation even more stressful and upsetting. I should not have had to discover the damage myself after leaving the bay, return to the business, receive conflicting explanations, and then track down customer service on my own
Nothing was done or offered at the time to remediate the situation not even a customer service number was provided.
I have never experienced anything like this during a routine oil change, and I will never return to this Valvoline location I strongly encourage management to review exactly what happened, including the camera footage, and address how this situation was handled.
