I just used the Water St garage this weekend as a very convenient place to leave my car near NL's Union Station. Everything about my trip to Boston went great. Train station, the AMTRAK service, the Station in Boston, the T, our hotel, the return train to NL. Then we got to the Water St garage to pick up our car. I knew we had parked during the Celebrate NL festival and the rate was $30 for the day. Not a problem with billing, it was $47 for a little over 2 days. Nothing happened to our car. It was easy to drive in and out and present our ticket. So far so good. But what was wrong? Getting in the garage on foot! When we left, one elevator was out of service. When we returned, it was still broken, and apparently so was the other one! And the elevator stairwell was locked- from the inside of the garage, but not the outside! The outside door was open, the elevator was inoperable, so we went up the stairs... and could not get out. No signs. No warnings. So, back down the stairs, outside, walk around the garage and back in the other side, past the other broken elevator... to use the remaining stairway. Which has a broken railing laying on the stairs. An 8 foot long railing for an entire set of stairs. No barricade, caution signs, or any indication someone is trying to fix this. It looked abandoned or vandalized. If I didn't live in New London, I would leave with the impression that they don't want me to be here. Don't come back. That's what this level of neglect says to me. LAZ clearly does not fix problems, or even lift a finger to keep garage users safe. We had 3 bad knees between 3 people in our group, but weren't disabled. If any of us had been in a wheelchair, the trip up to the 3rd floor of the garage would have been painfully long. They don't seem to care, and the only thing they keep working is the credit card reader at the exit. The City should terminate this scam of a contract with LAZ Parking immediately.
Last winter I wrote this below and gave more stars. You can see that my opinion of this place has dropped drastically. Used the Water St Parking Garage during the recent serious snowstorm. It was free, thanks to the arrangement with the City of New London. After a couple days of plowing and shoveling, picked the car up and drove home. No hassle, no charge, no snow on the car! It would be worth it even at the regular daily rate just for the convenience. No issues with security or anyone in or near the garage. They have cameras everywhere nearby that go back to police dispatch.
