- BNBrian NealAug 26, 20265.0I had a question about "an urgent low coolant level pull over immediately" light on a 2013 Volvo. I called and Nick answered the phone personally on the first ring (when does that ever happen?), fully listened to my question, and patiently helped me diagnose the issue over the phone. (When does that ever happen?) Nick asked questions to determine if the vehicle was safe to drive (it was, saving me towing charges) and invited me in the next day to look at things and I could sense he REALLY knew the vehicle with the technical questions he asked over the phone. I drove the vehicle to him the next day, he remembered our conversation, greeted me immediately, popped the hood in the parking lot, inspected to coolant and system and let me know there is no issue aside from possibly a bad sensor. This was done without an appointment, and without a "plan to make money." (Once again, when does THAT ever happen?) This was a situation where Nick easily could've charged me thousands of dollars for unnecessary repairs. --I wouldn't have known any better and surely would've paid it-- Nick mentioned this is a family owned business, has been around over 40 years, he pays his technicians on salary, and encourages "ride alongs" to identify issues correct the first time and they've built many long term customers. Nick (the owner) and the people at Nick's Auto are Volvo experts, they're honest, and and they focused on saving me the customer money. I understand why customers seems so loyal to this place, they've earned it.

The salesman at the dealership where I purchased my new car said that if I have you work on my car, it will void my warranty. Is this true?
False! Consumers are entitled to have their cars serviced wherever they choose. Always read your warranty to understand what constitutes a covered service item. As long as detailed records are kept (as we do here for all of our customers) and the service intervals are met with Genuine parts your warranty will never be void.
How often should I have my car serviced?
It varies from model to model, but as a general rule you should change your oil every 5 thousand miles and perform the annual recommended factory scheduled maintenance.
Can you tell me what is wrong with my car over the phone?
In most cases we cannot accurately diagnose your vehicle over the phone. Your Volvo® is an extremely complex piece of machinery that requires hands on testing and inspection.
What is your policy on customer supplied parts?
We prefer not to install parts that a customer brings to our facility. There are several reasons for this. First, how does the customer know what part to supply? Who diagnosed what is wrong with the vehicle? Is the part the correct application ie correct chassis number or engine number? Many parts are different based on whether the car has ABS brakes etc. Is the part supplied up to our quality standards? We pride ourselves on quality work and that includes quality parts. In our opinion, bring your own parts is the same as taking your own food to a restaurant.
