Ignition interlock device installations usually take 1-2 hours at your local Official Intoxalock Location, depending on the make and model of your vehicle. You can either wait for the installation to be complete in a waiting area or can drop off your vehicle for pick-up later.

Depending on which state you live in, you will need to have your device calibrated every 30 to 180 days. These calibrations make sure your device accurately reads and records your breath alcohol concentration with every sample you provide.

Removing your ignition interlock or breathalyzer device is easy. Your installer will remove the device and will mail it back to Intoxalock for you. It's important that only your Official Intoxalock installer disconnect your ignition interlock device.

One of the worst companies I’ve ever dealt with. They had a breach on their side and I had to pay for towing and couldn’t use my car for a week they told me I’d get reimbursed and whenever I ask I’m told you got paid I’ve sent receipts. And on top of that now the system failed again and they told me the same thing. 2X and not to mention the person who is supposed to help named Daniel never has his phone on ever

Most of the staff was both friendly as well as understanding however there was one employee who was a bit short tempered and not at all into helping me with how the device worked the little bit of I go he did give was helpful and I did eventually figure it out and get car started. The employee who actually installed device was awesome every interaction. However he was no longer there when I picked up vehicle.

The men are always polite, and they make my experience convenient and fast. The cost is very affordable compared to other down load places.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.

What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
