- IMIain MannixAug 22, 20265.0Advance Auto has treated me well for a while, but the store on Progress Street in Littleton is especially good; the staff is universally helpful, and Harry the parts counter guy is a wealth of information; I wish all shops had a "Harry," the experience he's got is priceless, and when I ask him for X, whatever it may be that day, he asks "year-make-model." Reasonable. Often times, though, I'm doing something weird, or it is "for" an unusual application, something that year/make/model is irrelevant. Harry, unlike the unfortunately-typical parts store guy, does not immediately say "we don't have that," but instead, thinks about it, maybe asks a question or two, and he helps look for whatever it may be. That's REALLY unusual, and greatly appreciated. I don't normally associate that sort of "above and beyond" attitude with chain stores. This Advance is unusually good. The one at 6676 S Wadsworth is very good, too - but they don't have Harry. Harry is rad.

I purchased a battery from an Advanced Auto Parts up in Greeley last year, and for whatever reason it went bad the other day. I ended up taking it in to this location because David the manager (who was also wonderful over the phone) said they would honor my warranty. I brought it in tonight and Mark ended up helping me. He pulled up all my information, and was even aware of my situation based off the call i had with the manager the day before. He went out to my car and looked everything over, was super cautious to do everything correctly to avoid damaging my connections, was very explanatory of what could be causing the corrosion, and tested the other components before and after changing the battery. He also cleaned all the corrosion so diligently, it seemed like he was taking care of his own car. Seriously the best, i would absolutely trust Mark and the manager, David, with any future issues!

Signs of a bad car battery can range from the need for frequent jump starts, slow to start, cranks or clicks but won't start, dash lights work but the vehicle won't start, etc.

HOW DO BRAKES WORK?

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
