Ignition interlock device installations usually take 1-2 hours at your local Official Intoxalock Location, depending on the make and model of your vehicle. You can either wait for the installation to be complete in a waiting area or can drop off your vehicle for pick-up later.

Depending on which state you live in, you will need to have your device calibrated every 30 to 180 days. These calibrations make sure your device accurately reads and records your breath alcohol concentration with every sample you provide.

Removing your ignition interlock or breathalyzer device is easy. Your installer will remove the device and will mail it back to Intoxalock for you. It's important that only your Official Intoxalock installer disconnect your ignition interlock device.

Got my car done at cartoys. Took them 8 1/2 hrs to do a 3-4 hour install. Even though I was the first appointment of the day they lied about how they were actively working on my car but it was sitting in the parking lot for 5 hours before they even got started on it. Didn't give me any training on the device and had to beg one of the employees to show me how to use it. Also, they didnt go through the packet with me like they were supposed to, to make sure all documents I needed were signed, I had to go back the next day so I could get the signatures I need. I understand that installing this device are the least of that companies concerns, but the lack of respecting a appointment, lying about the status of my vehicle as well as not teaching me when its supposed to be required and rushing to "deal with me" to get me out of there and not finishing the important documents is not okay.

They don’t know what they are doing. Screwed my car up. Had to take it somewhere else and have them redo the wiring. Was causing my car to short out . Won’t ever come back

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.

What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
