- JBJohn BauerMay 12, 20261.0Went in looking for front and rear pads and rotors for a 2013 RAV4. The employee asked for the trim level, and when I said I didn’t know but had the VIN number, he argued with me and insisted the VIN wouldn’t help identify the vehicle. Strange considering that’s literally what VINs are for. He then told me about a brake deal where the pads are free when you buy rotors. He only grabbed front parts at first, and when I asked about the rears he seemed visibly annoyed that I expected the full order I originally asked for. I had to specifically ask again for rear rotors. Less than 30 minutes later I had to come back because the front rotors he sold me were incorrect. He refunded the wrong rotors, but instead of honoring the same brake deal on the correct set, he charged me full price even though the pads had been purchased under that promotion minutes earlier. When I explained the situation and asked about it, there was zero effort to fix the problem or even acknowledge the inconvenience. Mistakes happen, but bad attitude and refusing to make things right is what earned this 1 star review.

- KKKyleApr 11, 20261.0I came in for a core return for some brake calipers I had bought from the same store. I even came in with my receipt showing the original purchase. The same guy who sold them to me told me he could not find the order and refused to take the return so I could get my core charge back. He was also incredibly rude the entire time. Update after business reply: I did take it to the location at 10600 W Colfax Ave and they helped me get my refund in less than two minutes. I like going there better anyway cause there’s a Harbor Freight right next door.

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
