I'd gone to Pro Lube for, what, 3 decades? Went there today, but now it's "Valvoline", and it's changed, a lot! I didn't know it had changed hands from private to corporate until I was already committed. I fear for those eager new employees in a difficult time of high inflation, but I don't know, the place could last, I suppose. There are maybe twice as many people, and a lot of that "team" kind of shouting. They were all, in fact, very polite, and all about consent, which seems odd to me. I'm there for the service they're providing, so of course they can open the door to look at the manufacturer sticker, which they have to look at and have to open the door to see. I'm all for giving people jobs, but... Said it would take 15 minutes, but certainly it took a lot longer which must be, I hope, growing pains, right? AND it was $97 for a 5-qt oil and filter change! They checked both the cabin air and intake filters and offered to replace them for $36 each, which is double the retail price for the intake filter, 4x the cost of the cabin air filter! They'd already done all the necessary work, but of course I don't want to pay another $80! They could save themselves the trouble by asking first, since unlike Pro Lube, didn't vacuum the filters or anything, which PL did without asking or charging. Didn't replace the filler plug crush washer, either, and put a 3-month/3000 mile sticker on the windshield for full synthetic! Seriously? I wish it had stayed locally owned, because corporate... I've got to find another place or just start doing it myself.
Pro-Lube was my place to go for all in one oil change and smog check and seeing the new Valvoline is differet. My first time experience with Valvoline here was "Eh~so-so". Place looks very different than what it looked like a few months ago. Its definitely a lot cleaner and open, I definitely miss the flowers in the front to give some fresh air to the area for all the exhaust that comes and goes, and definitely miss the convenience of the smog check as it is not offered by Valvoline. Pricing was a big surprise as I used to pay $80 for full-synthetic to now being charged $120 for the same oil change, lucky for me they offered 20% one time discount to drop the price down to $97. During the oil change refill they accidentally had a backsplash from the hose that caused oil to spill into my engine bay, luckily they cleaned the top of the engine and skid plate. The Assistant Manager helped clean the oil from my car and explained what occurred and that it was cleaned with de-greaser, but when I asked if it would smoke as I drove my car to which she stated "Absolutely!" and walked off. Luckily she came back around to me and I again asked as I was concerned, as she later stated she misunderstood me the first time, and stated that my car would not smoke as I drive due to the de-greaser. Overall a so-so experience as the prices are very different, staff are friendly and helpful at explaining, did have that mishap with the oil backsplash, and sad to see an empty bay that used to be for smog checks as I need one this year.
