  Our flight got canceled and there’s no other flights out of the original location, and they want to charge us $500 to drop off the car at the only other location we could actually fly out of, in a neighboring airport. Obnoxious. Double the cost of our reservation

  I rent out of the Oakland airport and I love the staff there. Very helpful My partner and I have a fondness for Erwin. They have a wide variety of cars available. If you're looking for an intermediate SUV, they have the Jeep compass and the Mazda cx50, I prefer the latter If I'm loading up some stuff. Otherwise I end up with a car like Corolla or Camry type. They do have luxury cars available like the Genesis and other toy cars As a member of Costco, I use their travel site in the Costco app to make my reservations. The prices are very competitive. And usually Alamo has more inventory than other car rental agencies I had a situation last week where I found out that my driver side car door would not open after a few hours of operation. So if I turned it in got an exchange and the exchange started from the time I got the next vehicle so I didn't lose any rental time. I like that. Anyway, I've been using them regularly for the past 4 to 6 months and have to say it's enjoyable, and at some point I will be having owning a car. I have been using this as an opportunity to test out vehicles of all types. In terms of an intermediate SUV, I like both the Jeep compass and the Mazda CX50, the Mazda CX50 has more carrying capacity which I appreciate. I also got a chance to drive the Volvo SUV which I really really really loved, but it also uses a lot of lot of lot of gasoline. Oh well. They have a reasonable insurance price for most cars, but once you get into the intermediate SUVs it does go up from about 25 to 41 or $42 a day. Worth it for peace of mind unless you have a really good insurance company. In terms of getting to location, I usually take bus and BART. The train shuttle from coliseum station to the airport is pricey, I think it's over $7 now but it's worth the time savings over taking the 73 bus. Some people just Uber.

  Insanely condescending manager. Reviews are typically not my thing, but there is a reason I am an Avis Preferred member. Having booked a vehicle then being told it wasn't available for another few hours and then after inquiring further I was upsold at an ridiculous price and a hold amount unheard of. I watched the manager (could not recall her name) be intentionally sarcastic through out the process to individuals she may have deemed low class. I had to unfortunately go through National because all other places weren’t available. The woman followed me outside as I was noticeable displeased and continued to antagonize me. I would avoid national and Alamo at the Oakland airport. Suspicious business practice and unnecessary sarcasm from nasty power tripping manager. Avoid avoid avoid.

  The service at Alamo was terrific! The car was clean, full of gas and freshly washed. The only issue we had with the car, Hyundai Kona, was the model itself. I wouldn't recommend it. My husband hit his head a few times getting out of the car. It wasn't as comfortable as out car at home. The reservation process, the customer service at the rental desk, we're all great, though!

  Clean lot and good cars. Professional and friendly local staff at the airport location. I wish it was easier to get through to local staff through the phone tree. It's almost impossible to find help when you're trying to see if you have a lost item other than submitting a form through the website and praying.
