I’ve had multiple bad experiences with the same employee at this location. He’s a younger Armenian/Turkish looking male with a short temper. Recently, I bought an OBD2 scanner from the San Jose location and attempted to return it at Newark with my receipt last night. As soon as I walked in, the employee at the front was immediately aggressive and told me I could not return a scanner. I called other AutoZone stores and was told there shouldn’t be any issue. I then contacted the regional district manager, who instructed the Newark store that the return should be processed. When I returned, the employee claimed I was “banned” and said he didn’t want to see my face in the store again. I informed him I have a commercial account and that banning me would damage my business. He claimed the ban came from the district manager I had spoken with and said he didn’t care if I was the CEO — he still didn’t want me there. When I questioned his authority, he became confrontational, attempted to get physical with me, told me “we can take this outside,” and walked out of the store inviting me to follow him. I called the regional district manager again, and he confirmed there was no ban. The return was eventually processed, but only after this unnecessary hostility and false claims. This level of aggression and unprofessional behavior is unacceptable. This particular AutoZone has permanently lost me as a commercial customer. I strongly recommend other mechanics and shoppers avoid this location.
