I rented a full-size vehicle from Enterprise for a week (April 15–23) through Costco, expecting something like a Camry or Sonata. My pickup was scheduled for 9:00 a.m. at the Marina del Rey location, but upon arrival I was told no cars were available. We should have been notified ahead of time so we could have canceled or re-booked with a different rental agency. Instead, I was put into a shuttle with other customers and sent to the Santa Monica (Wilshire Blvd) branch. The driver was rushing and driving aggressively, like a taxi trying to turn over passengers quickly, and also had to handle processing rentals herself. The shuttle ride took about 20 minutes, and once we arrived, we waited an additional 45 minutes with little assistance from the staff there. Despite multiple employees being present, no one stepped in to help us. We had to rely on the shuttle driver to advocate on our behalf. We were not given a real choice of vehicles. We were first offered a Mustang, which was not practical for our trip, and then placed into a Chevy Malibu. While the Malibu is technically a full-size car, it was not what I wanted and I had zero selection unless I agreed to go to another branch again. This situation could have been avoided if vehicles were properly allocated or brought to the Marina del Rey location ahead of time. The car itself had several issues. The windshield was dirty and had a greasy film that became dangerous during heavy rain. There were large scratches and paint damage, which were documented. The car only had about three quarters of a tank of gas. Shortly into the trip I received a low tire pressure warning at 27 PSI. These are basic safety and maintenance checks that should have been handled before rental. I was told by the Marina del Rey manager (Kyle) that I could swap the vehicle at any Enterprise location and even be upgraded. I then spent roughly four hours calling and visiting about ten locations in the Sacramento area. Seven of them refused the swap outright, claiming no inventory once they heard it was a replacement. One offered a downgrade to a Kia Forte with fewer safety features. I was also directed to the Sacramento airport location, where despite a large visible inventory, I was told only trucks or very small cars were available and was treated dismissively. Kyle even tried to speak directly with the airport employees on my behalf, and they were just as dismissive to him as they were to me. Coordination between branches was essentially nonexistent, and exchanges were not prioritized even when safety issues were present. What surprised me most is that Enterprise locations are not franchises, yet they operate as if every branch is completely independent and unable or unwilling to help each other. There were multiple situations where notes from my conversations with customer service were not reflected in my rental agreement, so future representatives could not get the full picture. I was told multiple times that a manager would follow up, but no one did. After returning the vehicle, Kyle was apologetic and offered $100 off, which I appreciate, but it does not make up for the time, stress, and safety concerns. This experience reflects a systemic issue with poor inventory coordination between locations, lack of accountability, and inability to support customers when something goes wrong. I have never had these kinds of issues with other rental companies. While most frontline employees were polite and Kyle did what he could, they clearly do not have the tools or authority to resolve problems effectively. After this experience, I would not rent from Enterprise again and cannot recommend them.

During my rental period of the car, I received a fine. Even though it was my own fault—I received a parking ticket because I accidentally entered the wrong license plate—I was very disappointed that they did not properly assist me in contesting this fine. I even had proof of payment in the form of a ticket in my possession. As a rental company, they only needed to call to explain this, but they refused. I consider this a complete lack of service. I am a tourist from the Netherlands; I do not understand what I am supposed to do, and they simply left me stuck with my problem. I was given a phone number to call, but it wasn't even in use. In any case, I will never rent a car there again!!

Matt and Kyle are so great and helpful when I needed a last minute rental. So kind, helpful, and caring which I not something you see in this industry. I will rent here just because of them.
