The one thing that I can appreciate with National Car Rental was the flexibiliity. I was planning a 10 day trip with friends and needed to make sure the vehicle I chose was big enough for 5 - 6 adults and luggage. I was to have one of two rented vehicles. The dates were also a little fluid and ends up we would only need the vehicle for 9 days. Four of us flew in one day and the rest flew in the next day. We ended up with three vehicles and again with different dates. Luckily, I was not in charge of booking all of them! I do have status with National so I could skip the counter and choose my vehicle. Once we landed in LAX, the agent helped us choose a van and drove it to where we were standing. She didn't like the first one so she went and got another one and we all liked her choice. It was a black (26) Chrysler Pacifica. It met our needs and was quite comfortable. Our only issue was getting a shuttle from the baggage claim area (Terminal 6) to the car rental center. We literally took another company's shuttle because three (3) National/Enterprise/Alamo shuttles had passed us by. They were full and it was 9 pm at LAX. So know that you can catch a different car company shuttle if you are finding it difficult to get on the one you need. They have a central car rental area that serves most of the big names.

Normally, National gets a 5-star, but they just moved to the car center, and it is a terrible experience. Even though National is the most expensive (which I don't mind because normally great cars, etc.), their bus drops the furthest out, then you have to navigate through Avis and Hertz to a bank of elevators and go up three levels. The return was even worse. We walked a very long way to where others were standing and the lady said National picks up "down there". We went "down there" and it too was the wrong location. Turns out you have to go to stop 18 to get National (which again is the furthers outpost while Hertz and others drop off at the door), and then they send a small van for 50+ people waiting to go to the terminal (12 people is all that would fit), all the while two large National buses bypassed the area. Maybe they will get their act together, but for now I will avoid National at LAX.

I would not recommend National as a good source for a car rental. I left my phone in one of their vehicles at the airport and asked if they could bring it to me at the terminal. They agreed and assured me that they had my phone and were meeting me at the terminal. I waited at the terminal for an hour, missed my flight and after several confused phone calls back and forth were told to go back to the customer service office to collect my phone. When I reached the customer service desk nobody knew nothing about my phone and they could not locate the car I had dropped off an hour before. My husband was tracking my phone the entire time and it was showing somewhere in the garage. After waiting for an additional hour for customer service to locate my phone as they assured me there was somebody looking for it. They tell me that the car was rented out and I would have to wait until it was returned to receive my phone. I told them that my phone was still showing in the parking garage and if they could check the lost and found areas. Another 2 hours talking to at least 5 other individuals who did not want to help me, only to pass me on to somebody else, I never received my phone. My phone tracked in the garage up until 2 days later when it died. I still haven’t received my phone and no follow up notifications. I would’ve understood had the company not lied to me about saying that they were bringing it to me in the terminal and then again saying they were taking it to customer service. The company wasted several hours of my time making me go back and forth several places when they could’ve just been honest and told me they did not know where my phone was.

First time renting out of the new LAX Car Rental Facility. Trams not working but individual busses were and it worked great except the drop-off is obviously catered towards the tram experience (still dont see how use of a centralized tram will be efficient since we have to collect our bags and then walk to the central station). The new facility reminds me of the Las Vegas car rental facility. Very nicely laid out and spacious. Much nicer then the old facilities (not just National but all the others as well). As always, National’s staff were all friendly, efficient, and helpful.

I recently returned a rental at National Car Rental’s location at LAX and was thoroughly impressed with the entire experience. The new facility is modern, clean, and well-organized — a huge upgrade that made dropping off the car quick and stress-free.From the moment I pulled in, I was greeted with a warm and friendly welcome. The staff made the return process effortless and pleasant. A special shoutout to Mr. Castro, who was absolutely fantastic — super friendly, professional, and genuinely helpful. He went out of his way to make sure everything was taken care of smoothly. What really stood out was when they offered me a shuttle ride directly to my hotel near the airport. That thoughtful touch turned what could have been a hassle into a seamless and relaxing experience.Everyone I interacted with at National Car Rental was outstanding. This level of customer service is rare these days, and it made my whole trip end on a high note. I’ll definitely be renting with National again next time I’m in LA. Highly recommend!
