truly horrible experience. followed the EVgo instructions, plugged it in, it recognized my account, i heard “charging started” from my car, and then it told me there was something wrong with my card. i logged in through the app, confirmed the card was valid, tried paying through there, and then it hung infinitely on a “syncing with your car” screen LOL
as a last resort, i tried just forgoing the awful app and using tap-to-pay on the station’s screen itself -- somehow it was an even worse experience than the app, LMAO. the screen was unresponsive, the UI was confusing… and at one point the screen broke COMPLETELY and showed two of the start screen (see photo).
ultimately, the third and final time i got it to say “charging started” (despite no confirmation in either the app OR the screen!), i just walked away and crossed my fingers it actually worked. and, lo and behold, it did - at like a whopping 60kw/hr. was gone for nearly an hour and only charged to a partial percentage of what i needed.
as a final capstone: i got an email via EVgo telling me my charging session was complete, with a link to View Session Details… and when i click it, it opens the app and says “OOPS! Something went wrong while loading your transactions. Please try again.” the transaction DOES NOT EXIST in my transaction history either -- it’s a ghost! Just an end-to-end labyrinthine nightmare of an experience, start to finish. Amazing work, EVgo team!!!
(PS, fun fact: EVgo’s session emails end with a prompt saying “Satisfied with your charging experience?” with two buttons: “Yes👍” and “No👎”. If you click “Yes”, you’re escorted to the corresponding Google Maps page to leave a positive review. If you click “No,” you’re quickly shepherded to EVgo’s own private feedback website, where that feedback goes into a void never to be acted on, just to ensure their Google Maps reviews stay artificially inflated to be as positive as possible. Maybe if they put 1% of the effort they spend on manipulating user reviews towards making functional charging stations and a functional app, using their products would be a better experience! Oh well 🥲)
