I’ve had two negative experiences with the same employee at the AutoZone in Newark, CA, which is unlike any other AutoZone I’ve shopped at.
A few months ago, this employee tried to close the store early and was rushing me aggressively while I was trying to make a purchase — something I’ve never experienced at any other AutoZone.
Recently, I bought an OBD2 scanner from the San Jose location and attempted to return it at Newark with my receipt. As soon as I walked in, the same employee was immediately aggressive and told me I could not return a scanner.
I called other AutoZone stores and was told there shouldn’t be any issue. I then contacted the regional district manager, who instructed the Newark store that the return should be processed.
When I returned, the employee claimed I was “banned” and said he didn’t want to see my face in the store again. I informed him I have a commercial account and that banning me would damage my business. He claimed the ban came from the district manager I had spoken with and said he didn’t care if I was the CEO — he still didn’t want me there.
When I questioned his authority, he became confrontational, attempted to get physical with me, told me “we can take this outside,” and walked out of the store inviting me to follow him.
I called the regional district manager again, and he confirmed there was no ban. The return was eventually processed, but only after this unnecessary hostility and false claims.
This level of aggression and unprofessional behavior is unacceptable. This particular AutoZone has permanently lost me as a commercial customer. I strongly recommend other mechanics and shoppers avoid this location.
I drove in just before 8:00 p.m. with a completely dead battery. Mason quickly helped me figure out the right replacement battery and installed it for me at no extra charge.
The space under the hood is incredibly tight, and the battery cover has to be one of the worst designs I’ve ever seen. It definitely wasn’t an easy job, but Mason took his time and made sure everything was done right.
Big thanks to Mason and Jacob for their help. They were friendly, patient, and provided excellent service. I really appreciate it!
I went to Autozone today and see if they have valve caps because one of the tires from my car is missing it. They do have valve caps but unfortunately, the ones that they have are too loose to seal the valve even if they’re labeled as universal. So I asked for a refund afterwards.
Other than that, they do have other parts where you can get to service your own car. It’s been a while since I went to a car shop like this and that they seem to have all sorts of options. Just keep in mind that they don’t have everything in the store and you may want to go to the dealership to look for original parts and accessories.
It's a good place to get your auto parts they have lots of selection on your need
I’m very disappointed with the service at this location. They heavily advertise free battery replacement with purchase, but the reality is much different. When I arrived, the store was incredibly short-staffed, and I was told I’d have to wait an hour and a half just for someone to be available to swap the battery.
Understandable that things get busy, so I offered to do the work myself right there in the parking lot if they could simply lend me the basic tools needed. They refused to let me use a wrench and told me I would have to purchase the tools myself if I wanted the battery replaced any sooner.
It’s ridiculous to advertise a "free" service and then essentially force a tool purchase or an unreasonable wait time because of poor staffing. If you’re looking for the "trustworthy" service they promise in their commercials, go elsewhere.
