AMAZING!!! DO NOT USE SMART START!!!
Switched to Intoxalock and it's night and day. The installer even helped with the damage to my car from the previous device. Customer service actually picks up and helps. The technology is more reliable than what I had before. Highly recommend.
One note: I fixed "went out of my way" to "went out of his way" since it sounds like you're describing the installer. Let me know if you want the tone dialed up or down.

I went through Intoxalock services Lacy hooked me up with multiple other shops who quoted me high. Luckily she found Grand Valley. He was respectful and very reasonable with pricing. Go to him if you want a better pricing. He also explains everything before leaving

The owner is completely unprofessional. I was quoted one price for a routine calibration. I paid it right away. Then I was told I needed pay more since the owner was coming to my house to do the calibration. Then he told me again that I needed to pay even more all within a very short amount of time. I texted him and told him that I was not happy about it and his response “ That’s not it brother
$49 my shop price I sssumwd you were coming to me
$101 local
$1.25 per mile outside of that.”
“ That’s standard for my shop”
“Hey buddy I can issue you a refund if you like and if you want to use someone else you can “
I said “ Come down tomorrow and we will see how things go”
He said “ Hello sir I’m a business owner trying to keep all you guys compliant this isn’t a “ if I like your pricing we’ll see how things go “ this is that’s my price or your getting a refund dude ”
Then he said this “ Your paying my fee or your getting a refund right now ”
This guy runs his business like a thug! You don’t talk to your customers like that! Needless to say, he lost my business!
Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.

Ignition interlock devices can be installed at certified service centers nationwide. Intoxalock offers a convenient network of locations and helps you schedule an installation appointment near you. Installing an ignition interlock device typically takes 1-2 hours, depending on your vehicle type. Certified technicians ensure the device is properly installed and provide you with training on how to use it. Contact Intoxalock for an appointment and an accurate time estimate for your installation.
What happens if I fail a breath test on my ignition interlock device?
If you fail a breath test, your vehicle will not start, and the device will log the event. Depending on your state’s regulations, multiple failed tests may trigger additional penalties, such as lockouts or reporting to your monitoring authority. Intoxalock devices allow you to retest after a short wait if alcohol is no longer detected. Always follow your state’s guidelines to remain compliant.
Can I install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle I don’t own?
Yes, in most cases, you can install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle you regularly drive, even if you’re not the registered owner. What should I do if my ignition interlock device locks me out?
