Wednesday, September 9, I scheduled a mobile appointment for Friday, September 11, for a windshield replacement using the online feature. Thursday, September 10, I received an email reminding me of my appointment and an offer for Ceramic Air Blue tint. After inquiring how much the blue tint would cost, I called Safelite to inform them I was interested in the blue tint and only the blue tint.
Friday, September 11, Ricardo, the Safelite tech, arrived and I was informed that the tint strip had not been added yet. I said “Tint strip? I don't want the tint strip. I want the blue tint.” Ricardo proceeded to tell me that the windshield he had did not have the blue tint on it. He made a phone call then told me the tint could be put on overnight and the windshield could be installed the afternoon of Saturday, September 12.
Saturday, September 12, Michael, the Safelite tech, arrived with a similar situation. Ricardo had taken the windshield home instead of dropping it off and therefore, the blue tint had not been put on. Michael informed me that the “tint guy” would not be working until Wednesday, September 16, and he offered to have the windshield replaced Wednesday or later. I told him I would be at work and he said Safelite could do it there. I was less than excited but I agreed.
Tuesday, September 15, I called Safelite to insure that the windshield did in fact have only the Ceramic Air Blue tint. I was assured that it was only the blue tint.
Wednesday, September 16, I received a text alerting me that Maurizio, the Safelite tech, was on his way. I had taken my key fob to the front desk reception area because I was not sure if I would be available when Maurizio arrived. But luckily, I had noticed my silenced phone ringing and answered to Maurizio questioning where the main entrance was. I met him outside to give him my key fob and direct him to where I parked. I again asked that the windshield only had the blue tint on it. He said it did and that the tint strip had also been applied. [Insert hand slap to forehead.] What? All I want is for my windshield to be replaced, so I tell him “Just do it.”
After a few minutes and remembering why I did not want the tint strip (it is so ugly and quite obstructive to my view), I called Safelite to complain to someone. I was transferred to Mario. I informed him of the situation and that I had been fully charged for Safelite's f*@#up. He apologized and admitted he had instructed the tint strip be put on. He told me he would call the tech and have him remove it and informed me of my final balance.
To my chagrin, upon the very second I saw my windshield after work, the tint strip was still there. I was also charged more than I was quoted.
When I got home I called Safelite for an explanation. Ramon told me Mario had left for the day, but he would investigate and get back to me. Upon his return call, Ramon assured me that the windshield would be replaced, but it was a matter of when the “tint guy” worked again.
FYI: Wednesday, September 16, I did notice 2 missed calls from Safelite while I was at work. No voicemails. No follow up calls. No follow up texts. I don't know how Safelite employees do it, but it is very difficult for me to take care of personal business while at work. ie Taking personal calls while in an exam room with the doctor assisting with a patient's procedure is very much frowned upon.
So, in short, I am awaiting for the 4th attempt to have my windshield replaced. Who knows when that will be. What incentive has Safelite provided me to recommend a friend let alone return to Safelite myself?
UPDATE: Thursday, 9/24/26, after not being contacted for a week, I called Safelite to find how much longer I had to wait for my windshield. I spoke to Ramon again, who had no recollection of the issue. He further tells me I would have to bring my vehicle in to get the tint strip and blue tint removed and then the blue tint reapplied. And that is only done on Wednesday. Excuse me? That is not what I was told a week ago. Of course there is no resolution tonight.
