On July 13, 2026, I went in to have my still-functioning battery replaced under warranty. What should have taken 15 minutes turned into a four-hour ordeal. The team pulled up my account and warranty without issue and attempted to replace the battery. After trying multiple brand-new batteries and only getting enough power to turn on my car’s headlights and taillights, I was told I would need a tow truck.
The team member on duty said I could use my insurance or the towing service they recommended. He also told me I would be reimbursed for the tow to a Firestone Auto about a mile away, where they could perform a systems check. I waited about 3.5 hours for the tow truck to arrive. Within five minutes of the tow truck's arrival, the driver identified that my 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe had a small button below the dashboard that could restart the electrical system (which I was told older models before 2015 all have). After holding the button for a few seconds, my car started perfectly, and the tow was no longer needed. Despite this, I was still charged for the tow service.
The original incident was frustrating, but the bigger issue was the lack of customer service afterward. On July 14, I contacted the store to ask where I could send my digital tow receipt for reimbursement. I was told the store and manager did not have email addresses and that I would need to bring in a physical copy. Since this location is inconvenient for me to reach, I brought the receipt in the following week. I was then told that store manager Andrea was on a two-week vacation and would contact me when she returned, which I understood.
After three weeks passed with no update, I contacted Andrea. She said paperwork was being held up by corporate and promised to call me back by the end of the day. When I did not hear back, I called on Saturday, August 15. Another store manager, Jeremiah, told me my reimbursement was ready and that I needed to come in that day. I explained that Sunday or Monday would work better with my schedule. He said he would not be there those days but told me he would be at the store until 10 pm that night and would call me with additional hours when I could be assisted.
I went to the store after my own work shift, shortly after 7:30 pm, only to be told by the shift lead that Jeremiah had left hours earlier. The shift lead instead gave me Andrea’s schedule for the following day.
Finally, on August 16—more than a month after the original incident—I received my reimbursement for the tow charge.
While I appreciate eventually receiving the reimbursement, the repeated miscommunication, unnecessary trips to the store, and lack of follow-through made this experience far more frustrating than it needed to be especially considering the digital age in which we currently live.

Nick at this store is an absolute professional and if my business was located in Phoenix, I'd steal him from Auto Zone! My mother is 88 years old and she was so afraid when her battery started acting up. I told her I would drive to town to see about it and she said, "We'll, let me go to Auto Zone first. They usually take great care of us seniors." I met her there as she was walking in. Nick could not have been nicer or more professional to my mom. He even went in the back and brought her a chair so she could sit while he replaced her battery in the 108° heat. He never complained. He did the entire job with a smile. You hired a damn good person when you hired Nick, Auto Zone. Take care of him!
