I needed a new windshield and, unfortunately, I don’t have insurance, so I called Safelite to make an appointment and planned to pay out of pocket. I was quoted $813. At that point, I figured, whatever, I need a new windshield.
During the call, they mentioned that there may be a warranty on the windshield I currently have. I figured, sure, take a look. I could use a free windshield, especially since the crack wasn’t caused by an impact. I’m pretty sure it was heat damage.
Then came the scheduled appointment day, and I had one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever had with a technician, Sergio.
He never showed up and never called. So, I called Safelite to check on the appointment, and they told me that the technician had already been there.
Confused, because I havent been contacted AT ALL, I explained that I have been home all morning and even working in my yard all morning (from about 9:10 – 9:40). My car was in the garage, and I had not seen or heard anyone come to my house.
For some reason, I was then transferred directly to Sergio. He told me that he had been at my address, which he described as the “last house on the left,” and that he LOOKED at the car in the DRIVEWAY. He also claimed that he called and spoke to a man who told him he was going to make a claim through our insurance company.
I explained to him that none of that happened. My car was in the garage, I had been outside in my yard all morning, and there was no man for him to have spoken with. The appointment was under my name, and my aunt’s information was also on the appointment. She had not received any calls either.
Instead of trying to figure out what happened, Sergio became extremely defensive and started yelling at me, acting as though I was accusing him of lying—which, at that point, I was understandably questioning because his story did not match what actually happened.
I tried to de-escalate the conversation because I was genuinely confused about whose car he had supposedly inspected. The only thing that made sense was that he had the correct address, since he repeated my address and even described it as the last house on the street.
Then he hung up on me.
I called Safelite again and explained everything to another representative. Their response was essentially that “he didn’t do anything wrong.”
Excuse me… WHAT?
So, according to Safelite, a technician can supposedly arrive at your home, inspect a vehicle that was not mine, claim he spoke to someone who was never there, fail to contact the actual customer, become hostile when questioned about it, and then hang up on the customer—and somehow he did nothing wrong?
I understand that mistakes happen. If Sergio went to the wrong vehicle or there was some kind of mix-up, I was completely willing to work with him to figure it out. What I cannot understand is the refusal to acknowledge that something clearly went wrong and the way I was treated when I tried to get an explanation.
At this point, I’m extremely disappointed with Safelite and especially with how this situation was handled. Anyways, I checked my cameras, and he drove pass my house and did not stop (9:05), then lied about everything. Plus, now the windshield quote is $900. What in the confusion. How do I give no stars.
