I had a truck reserved with Budget Truck Rental for over a month, only to arrive at the location and be told there were no trucks available. The employee casually stated, “Oops, I didn’t call you to inform you,” which is completely unacceptable for a company handling scheduled moving and transportation services.
The experience only got worse from there. I was told there were “no customer restrooms,” despite there being a clearly marked restroom with a sign stating “Customer Restroom.” The lack of professionalism and basic customer courtesy was astonishing.
The employee then suggested I drive over an hour north to another location that “might” have a truck available, but with “no guarantees.” I had her call that location while I was there, and they initially confirmed they had nothing available either. Eventually, they called back and said they did have one truck available — but it was still over an hour out of the way.
Because of Budget’s failure to honor a reservation that had been made weeks in advance, I incurred additional rental car charges from returning my other vehicle late, hundreds of dollars in extra fuel costs, several wasted hours of driving, and ultimately had to pay for a hotel for the night. This entire situation created unnecessary stress, delays, and expenses during an already difficult moving process.
To make matters worse, customer service later offered me approximately $40 off as compensation, which honestly felt more insulting than helpful considering the amount of time, money, and inconvenience this caused.
A reservation should actually mean something. This was one of the most disorganized and unprofessional rental experiences I have ever had. I would strongly caution anyone against relying on Budget Truck Rental if your schedule or move actually matters.
