- NDNyabinghi DjehuttiDec 17, 20171.0After getting a flat tire at 2 a.m. and unable to break the last lug nut, I slept roughly in my car in 30 degree weather till morning so I could walk to the nearest auto parts store to get a breaker bar. Exhausted, I came across this Advanced Auto and told the salesman I needed to buy a breaker bar and a 21mm 6 point socket to remove a tire. Salesman takes me to the torque wrenches. After thoroughly searching the isle, I told him I couldn't find a breaker bar. Turns out they were right behind him at the register. So he sells me the breaker bar and a 21mm socket to go with it... Only to discover, after walking a mile back to my car, he sold me a 1/2 breaker bar and a 3/8 inch socket. So I walk the mile back to the store and he sells be a 1/2 inch socket.... Only to find out after I get to the car that it was a cheap multi point socket that wouldn't fit a lug nut. So, after walking back another mile to the store, he says he doesn't have any 6 point 21mm sockets for a 1/2 inch breaker bar. So, he sells me the original 3/8 inch socket with an adapter for the 1/2 inch breaker. After walking another mile back (now having walked 6 miles!), the adapter sheers off with the first pull. So I take the adapter back and explain to another saleslady that the adapter failed and she says, in the most ignorant tone, "what do you want me to do about it?!??" I refrained from pimp-slapping her and got the original salesman to refund it. In summary: DO NOT SHOP AT THIS LOCATION!!! They are the most pig ignorant, inept bunch of dingbats I've ever seen assembled in one place. If you must, double and triple check what they put in your bag.

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
