The customer service was abysmal! We landed around 11PM in Huntsville on July 2nd and had made a reservation at Enterprise at 11AM that morning, and at 11PM we were told they do not have cars available when you reserve same-day. The site allowed us to make the reservation and we did not receive any communication all day about them not having vehicles for same-day reservations. Then, we walked down 30 ft to National and the same older lady associate walked down to gleefully tell us they own National as well and have no cars. There was no attempt to help or anything. The rep at the National counter (long braids/blank facial expression) found an older reservation we made there and secured us a car. My partner expressed frustration with the previous service and the rep with braids said she was DONE with us and canceled our car and called her manager. Mind you we never saw her teeth-- no smile, no customer service, just moslty silent unhelpful attitude. The manager, Brenden, came to hear about our experience, did not engage in any problem solving, customer retention, and made no effort to help and empathize because MS IM DONE said she felt uncomfortable. She was not called out of her name, threatened or disrespected, again just communicating frustration with the experience. So, no car and awful customer service for us at almost midnight in a new town. We walked 5 ft over to Avis and rolled out within 5 min with a nice car, no issues.

When I arrived to pick up my rental car, the employee assisting me was unable to figure out how to fix the credit card reader issue. While I was waiting, another clerk came over and proceeded to help four other customers before I was finally handed over to her for assistance. I found this extremely frustrating and disappointing, especially after waiting while other customers were helped ahead of me despite my issue not being resolved.
The lack of urgency and customer care during the pickup process left a very poor first impression. Thankfully, when I returned the vehicle, the experience was completely different. The return process was fast, professional, and handled efficiently, which I appreciated.

I am a new Emerald Club member, and I'm very happy with my first rental. I had to modify my reservation, and customer service by phone was able to help me right away with changing my reservation. I will definitely rent from National Car Rental again.

Note - They did not accept the 'full coverage insurance' purchased online through expedia.
