I received a letter in the mail with reference to get an ignition interlock system installed for my DWI case, the company associated with the letter I received was “Intoxalock”
On one of my few rare days off from my demanding work schedule, I called intoxalock and scheduled an install, and they assigned my install @ “Custom Sounds #21” on San Pedro @10am. I woke up @7am and got ready on my day off for this scheduled install, show up ON TIME and they say that my device wasn’t there yet and blame UPS. They tell me that once UPS delivers the device, they will give me a call. I literally live in Deep South close to elmendorf, I drive a dam hemi, (20mpg) my ac had recently went out &because of the time sensitivity with the court requirements to get this thing installed, I was unable to get the AC repaired before hand. The whole reason I scheduled it here was getting it done with this particular Custom Sounds location was supposed to be the quickest way for me to get scheduled and installed ASAP according to Intoxalock.
I called every hour regardless of their promise to contact me when the device arrived, and waited they kept saying it wasn’t there. I’m literally stalling, refusing to go back to the south, and finally at 2pm I call and they say it’s there now. Then they say there’s a line of people before me and that the estimated time completion will be 7pm if I show up @3pm. I show up, then they say it should be done @5. I waited and waited and they began the install at the time they said it should be done. 5. They finished the install, drove the car up to the front. Saw me standing there and being patient, and refused to even walk up to me or call me name to verify that it is actually finished. I was trying to be patient instead of running up to the tech who had just walked into the door. I walk up to the desk 15 minutes after seeing the tech walk into the door and he gives me my key and I left. What a great final slap in the face to make me wait another 15 minutes at the end of this nightmare. This place f**king sucks and I would never reward them with my hard earned patronage after the worst service one could ever experience. 8hours out of my day for a ignition interlock install is what this establishment cost me. Don’t go there. Terrible, absolutely terrible service.
Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.
