I had a very disappointing experience with Ric Henry Auto. When I brought my vehicle in, I clearly explained all the diagnostics I had already performed myself — including the code my personal reader pulled and the compression test results. I came in specifically seeking further diagnosis to understand what was actually causing the code.
Instead, they simply hooked up their own code reader, told me the exact same code I had already reported to them, and then recommended a full engine replacement for around $15,000. I was charged $250 for information I had already provided when I walked in.
When I asked about deeper diagnostic work — the kind I believed the diagnostic fee was supposed to cover — I was told that would cost even more. I was under the impression that a diagnostic charge meant they would actually diagnose the problem, not just read a code and upsell a major repair.
I got a second opinion from a reputable local businessman who actually took the time to diagnose the real issue. He is repairing the problem for about $5,000 — far from the $15,000 engine replacement Ric Henry Auto claimed was necessary.
Based on my experience, I strongly recommend getting a second opinion before agreeing to any work here.

first of all, they don’t even have an enclosed parking space for vehicles waiting to get repaired, picked up, etc. it’s jsut all parked out in the open in the middle of questionable San Angelo.
paid 6 grand at one mechanic and couldn’t get it fixed there but a friend recommend Ric Henry so I said fine, I’ll try them. Ric Henry’s charged me 6 grand and gives me an invoice of nonsense, things fixed that don’t even relate to my car problem?? They won’t listen to you, or care what you say. They’ll “fix” things that don’t need to be fixed and ignore the actual issue, but charge you a couple thousand for it.

Well the parts we needed took a little bit longer than expected but it was the holiday season, however the repairs were done great and the vehicle runs great !
Frequently Asked Questions About Ric Henry's Auto Service
When should I do maintenance?
Manufacturers outline auto maintenance requirements such as oil changes and tire rotation. They also recommend inspection schedules or parts replacement when the odometer reaches 30,000 miles, 60,000 miles, and 90,000 miles, for example. Again, refer to the owner's manual for your vehicle's maintenance schedule.
When do I need an alignment?
You should get a wheel alignment: when your vehicle pulls to one side, uneven or rapid tire wear, your steering wheel is crooked when driving straight, squealing tires, shaking or vibrating steering wheel, and your steering wheel feels loose or unresponsive.
When should I get my tires rotated?
You should rotate your tires every 5,000 to 8,000 miles.
Does it matter how expensive my tires are?
The most important thing when deciding which tires to get is the type of tire you want. And the ways you’ll be using your vehicle. Passenger tires will suit most sedans for everyday use, while it’s recommended that most luxury vehicles have high-performance tires.
When should my car get an oil change?
It depends on the type of oil you are using. Whether conventional or synthetic. Most conventional oil brands last anywhere from 3,000 to 5,000 between changes. Most synthetic brands get anywhere from 7,500 to 15,000 miles. Please be sure to change the oil at least 4 times a year.
How do I know what type of oil my car needs?
Unless you’re a high-performance vehicle., i.e. BMW, Porsche, Corvette, or any type of Sports car; Synthetic Oil is not required. Conventional oil will perform just fine for most makes and models on the road.
How often should I change my brakes?
Most brake pads should be replaced every 25,000 to 60,000 miles for most cars with typical usage.
How bad can I let my brakes get before they become dangerous?
It is dangerous to drive with worn brake pads. Signs your brakes need to be replaced are a squeaking noise that later turns into a grinding noise. This is the sound of your brake pads getting worn down by the wheel of your car. Eventually, they can become so worn down, that the brake pads can slip off the vehicle.
Where are my rotors? Do they always have to be replaced with my brakes?
Brake Rotors are the large metal discs that are connected to the wheels of your vehicle. They are usually the metal you can see when staring into a standard vehicle wheel from the outside. They typically last longer than your Brake Pads. The standard car Rotor can last between 50,000 and 70,000 miles.
Is maintaining a foreign car more difficult than maintaining an American-made car?
Maintenance on ANY vehicle is equally as important. Whether foreign or domestic: Always follow your manufacturers’ recommendations. With foreign cars, you just need to ensure the mechanic is certified to work on foreign cars like Ric Henry is.
When should I perform regular maintenance on my vehicle?
Follow your vehicle manufacturer's schedule in the owner's manual, including inspections and parts replacement at milestones like 30,000, 60,000, and 90,000 miles.
How do I know if my vehicle needs a wheel alignment?
Get a wheel alignment if your vehicle pulls to one side, has uneven tire wear, a crooked steering wheel when driving straight, squealing tires, or a loose steering wheel.
How often should I rotate my tires?
Rotate your tires every 5,000 to 8,000 miles to ensure even wear and prolong their life.
What type of oil does my car need and how often should I change it?
For most cars, conventional oil is sufficient except for high-performance vehicles like BMW or Porsche. Change conventional oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles and synthetic oil every 7,500 to 15,000 miles, at least four times a year.
How often should I replace my brake pads?
Brake pads typically need replacement every 25,000 to 60,000 miles, depending on usage.
What are the signs that my brakes are dangerously worn?
Squeaking noises that turn into grinding sounds indicate your brake pads are worn and need immediate replacement to avoid safety risks.
Do brake rotors always need replacing when changing brake pads?
Brake rotors usually last between 50,000 and 70,000 miles and don't always need replacement when changing brake pads unless they are worn or damaged.
Is maintaining a foreign car more difficult than an American-made car?
Maintenance is equally important for all vehicles. Just ensure your mechanic, like Ric Henry, is certified to work on foreign models.
