I went to have my battery tested and replaced. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Aureliano helped with the installation and carried on a great conversation at the same time. Thank you for making this simple!

I am still sitting in the parking lot trying to figure out what happened. What I do know for sure is that this is not the place for a Black person (or maybe just Black woman) to walk into. I walked in and the two older white male employees were talking to each other. Each looked at me but didn’t acknowledge me even nonverbally. I didn’t think much of it because they were already speaking when I walked in, so waiting for them to finish made sense. When they finished, the older of the two approached me and said, “what can I do for ya?”, in a pretty gruff tone—but again, didn’t think much of it because…he’s an older gentleman and sometimes their tone can be misunderstood. But nope. When I said my check engine light was on and I needed to get a printout of the codes, he reached back to grab the code reader, aggressively pushed it at me and said, “go turn the car on and plug this in”…and began to walk away. When I replied, “are you saying for me to plug it in or to wait for you to come out?” (because never in the history of my coming to AZ for this have I ever been handed the reader and told to DIY), he rolled his eyes, acted like I was the dumbest broad on the planet and motioned dramatically with his hands, saying, “UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL…PLUG IT IN”. I’m not this man’s child nor his nagging wife and I feel sorry for the people who are and have to accept that disrespectful tone and drama from him…but I do not. I laid that scanner right on the counter, told him never mind, and walked out. I have been loyal to AZ my entire life, even while my mechanic has begged me time and again to switch to the main competitor. But this was insane.
Oh wow…
He just sent a Black male employee out with the reader since he saw me still sitting here in the parking lot. This man has a whole limp and he sent him out here across this parking lot 10 minutes after he’s the one who ran me off. If he’s a manager, that only makes this even worse…that his response was to make his employee the scapegoat instead of coming out here and apologizing. I declined the scan from the employee. I’ll head to that other auto parts store after all…my mechanic will be so pleased. This was insane.
