I’m very disappointed with my recent visit to Advance Auto Parts. I came in simply asking for a Honda Civic cam plug, and one of the employees treated me with unnecessary rudeness. Instead of helping, she acted as if I didn’t know what I was talking about and made dismissive gestures that were completely unprofessional.
I understand everyone can have a busy day, but customers deserve respect and basic courtesy. I wasn’t asking for anything unreasonable—just assistance with a part. Experiences like this make it hard to trust a store for future needs. I hope management addresses this, because no customer should be made to feel talked down to or unwelcome.

A few weeks ago we drove our 2020 F150 around all morning. We noticed that it started to stutter a little bit in cold starts but once warmed up it would turn on pretty well. I figured the OEM battery is 6 years old, it’s probably time to have it checked and likely replaced. We drove there and had it checked and the lady at the counter took a battery tester and checked it, she said it was low at around 500 charging power when it should be around 700. Not completed battery but low. When she finished I said thank you and we will be heading out, we have a Triple A insurance that will cover our vehicle batteries. So when I try to start the truck the battery went completely dead, no turning, nothing as if it had no battery. I walked back in the store and told the same lady the battery is now dead. She grabs her charger to try and jump star it with a battery jumper, tried starting it many times and it did nothing. She said the battery is done and walked away. We could either wait there for 45 to an hour to wait for our Triple A road side assistance to arrive at the store which will be awkward, or buy a brand new battery there. We were in a hurry so we bought a new battery there but we left with the sour taste that she drained our battery on purpose or didn’t properly use her jumper battery starter on purpose so we would be stuck there to buy a new one. Eventually we needed a new battery but the way it was handled we felt like we got scammed or entrapped into a corner to get a new battery if we needed to leave immediately. I’ve shopped there many times before but that was the last time I’ll ever shop their again, we can’t trust them anymore.

The manager is cool like the other side of the pillow man. He helped me with a difficult windshield wiper on my Lexus. It’s a well stocked store with an intelligent staff to point you in the right direction. And maybe help the hopeless by holding their hand. It’s the only auto parts store that I would ever use.

HOW DO BRAKES WORK?
Expand FAQ item
Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
