- WEWilliam EvansApr 1, 20261.0Bought a $350 part, and this car has been a pain. The part wasn't the right size, went to take it back and they said it was dirty. I hadn't been gone from the parts store 7 min, I placed it on the ground next to the old part, and it had obvious signs it wouldn't work. The item itself didnt have any oil or grease on it, the plastic wrap had a slight bit of grease smudge at the end of plastic packaging, that I could of wiped off, if I had a paper towel and also nothing on the box. So they refused to take it back. Now im stuck with a $350 part that doesn't work, after driving an hour to this location. Not happy at all, oreillys is notorious for selling the wrong part, but at least they stand behind their returns. I wont be back, horrible way to do business. I would go to Napa, autozone or oreillys, before I would ever come back to this place. Horrible experience, highly recommend Napa, not advance auto parts, this was my first and last experience with advance.

HOW DO BRAKES WORK?

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
